Courtesy light delay relay

Does the courtesy light delay relay do anything other than deal with the courtesy light?

I’ve just noticed my car doesn’t have one fitted and am pondering whether to get a replacement, however if the only thing it does is related to the courtesy light I’ll probably leave it!

The so called Courtesy light relay provides a time delay to the internal courtesy lights after the doors have closed and or ignition turned on.

It is a known source of problems e.g. draining the battery. It is also an expensive item as it includes some simple electronics.

If you are not bothered about a delay there is a simple mod that switches the internal lights on when a door is opened and switches them off when a door closes:
