Rear Brakes

I am trying to change the rear pads and discs on my 1997 5L chimaera but i cant get the piston to go back into its cylinder, i can make it come out further. And its not corroded. Is there something to do with the handbrake stopping it. I have only tried levering and my next tactic is a GClamp but i dont have any confidence or a gclamp to hand. If this is already listed somewhere sorry but search engine is down, Can anyone help please

Not done mine yet..but normally you have to wind the piston in !

You can do it the hard way using ordinary hand tools, but for ten quid or so you can buy a Ford wind-back tool which makes this trivially easy.

Thank you all, I had the rear wheel off and i was stuck, i did not want to force it so I tried you guys. After your advice I did screw it back in clockwise looking at the piston face very carefully with a pair of grips. I still need to do the other side. I had to cut a hex wrench down so it would clear the upright to remove and refit the caliper.

I will be doing all my own work on my car (which i have had from new) in future and my next task is to stop the exhast manifold blowing and fix the misfiring.
