No. I hated Religious Education being a compulsory subject at school. Why did we need it foisted upon us like that?
I spent most of my time staring out of the window in those classes. I just wasn't interested.
I saw it more as a way to learn about others. Knowing what makes others tick or how they think about things can very much improve how they perceive you if you use it to your advantage.I spent most of my time staring out of the window in those classes. I just wasn't interested.

Our RE teacher had given up many years before I started at that school. We just watched the first hour of the film Gandhi over and over again, unless Ofsted were in of course.I spent most of my time staring out of the window in those classes. I just wasn't interested.

Prob been done to death on here but thought id give it a whirl. Why do people still believe in it?
Probably includes some of the following,Tradition - grandparents, parents believed in it so offspring feel they have to also believe. (Some may see it as a disrespect if they don't follow their elders).
Difficulty understanding science and rational/logic thinking - the world is very complicated when it is modeled in the language of maths (which is the crux of what science does). People generally find it easier to believe in something simple.
Lack of education - many parts of the world simply don't teach alternatives to religion, so its no wonder there is no logical alternative.
Political - some parts of the world view religion as rule of law. It is required in order to install/justify methods of control over populations.
My aunt and cousins are very religious and it drives me mad.
She still keeps in contact with my late dads second wife, "as it is what he (my dad) would have wanted" sure he would have wanted that, however he wouldn't have wanted her to shaft both myself and my sister, lie and generally treat us all in the manner in which she has done, since my dads death, when I have brought this up with my aunt she says something along the lines of "we know what she has done, we won't judge, however god will" arghhhhh.
It's such bulls

t.As some one who lives in the developing world, I think there are two questions, In Europe and the USA, where people are educated and have at least a basic knowledge if modern science, who knows. I work with several Texans, and they all believe, amazes me.
For the majority of the developing world, and that includes all the Muslim world, its a question of, being brainwashed by continuous repetition, belonging to a heard/acceptance and lack of role models who don't believe. These reasons apply to Christian Philippines, Buddhist Thais or Muslim Indonesians, three groups I have detailed knowledge of.

With rare exception people believe what the people around them believe. Those of us brought up in a secular society are quite likely to have been given a perspective that makes religious faith seem odd. Many of us jump from that to the assumption that we are enlightened and people with religious faith are in need of a crutch, crap at critical thinking, badly educated, etc. To put it mildly, that's ironic.
