Just wondered if anyone with knowledge of these could have a look at the car below and say if it’s worth a punt.
I’m fairly competent with car electrics and have some decent diagnostic equipment.
I tend to think they know what the faults are when selling.

SRS could be as simple as a passenger occupancy sensor.

ESP could be as simple as a wheel sensor.

Take vagcom with you, if the srs light clears and go's away, it shouldn't be too much of a problem, if it comes back straight away, I would be inclined to walk away or decide if you want to reduce your offer and chuck some money at getting it fixed.

Same with other light.

Thanks, makes me wonder how it has a 12 month mot with these faults.
Probably better to walk away from this one.

Faults intermittent, turn lights off then get MOT.

It looks like an unmolested car in a great colour.

Exactly

Neither are overly expensive. Nothing that VCDS couldn't check easily.

Ok thanks for all the input, although I have a diagnostic package I feel I’d have to buy vcds to do it properly.

Where is the car? I'm pretty up to speed with most VAG stuff and I'm in Newbury.
If you did buy it feel free to pop round and I'll scan it for you.

Tidy old thing, looks original and well looked after.

Be warned, Mk1 TT's are a bit old and needy, mine is, one thing after another but nothing too horrendous, you just need to use the TT Forum, be hands on and ready to tackle stuff, VCDS, as mentioned is a must with these cars.

For the money though they are quite a special car really, I know there are loads of them, but they sold well for a reason, and with some tweaks can be pretty cecent to drive.

Just to make this a bit more general, I am thinking of a 225 TT as a weekend fun car to leave at my parents and use as a second car one weekend in 2 or 3, leaving my wife access to the 4x4 whilst I go off and play golf etc.

The car would sit on the drive between visits but I'd need it to be reliable and easy to service/ run when I need it.

It would need to get a set of golf clubs and trolley in the back!

There seems to be lots about with about 120-150k miles on the for upto £2k. I accept there is a risk with a car of this age and mileage but is this a realistic prospect?

Any well known problems to look for/ avoid?

Oh, and what's VCDS please?

Thanks for advice.

Mileage is not so much of an issue if it’s been well serviced, the problem with these cars is that most don’t see an oil change for 15000 to 20000miles which isn’t ideal.
Most will also be on the original clutch which must be nearing the end of its life by 150000.
You need to go in with your eyes wide open to possible future issues.
Vcds is the laptop based diagnostic package for vag cars.
This is one local to me that looks good, but I won’t be bidding. I missed out on the one I linked to.

Did you take the plunge? Im looking at these as a daily driver/GT car for the next year or two, you can find them with most of the big work done in the past 12 months.

VGDS is the diagnostic software, you can download it on your phone if you have bluetooth obd port adaptor!
