Just bought an S, and I love it. After a week of ownership the wipers blown the fuse, The washer is O.K. According to the book wash and wipe share the same fuse, I believe there is a park switch as well, this didnt work when I got the car. Anyone got any ideas. Hello clivef, bruv in law now has an S2.

I seem to remember that the Ford Escort switch does burn out, I think I had this problem.
I presume they are available, I'm sure somebody will confirm or deny this soon
Can anyone throw light on this?
Mine is the same,no intermitent wipe though there is a stalk switch position for it to operate one.
Suspect their is no contact on the original switch or possibly wiper motor but does anyone actually know the full story?
Is there a kit to overcome it or are we talking new motor etc.

Yes this is symptomatic of a stuck/faulty wiper park switch. I wrote a long post on diagnosing and replacing it a while ago but search seems to have been disaibled. So here goes:
The wiper park switch is located on the wiper motor, it is a white moulded plastic box with 3 male spades coming out of it. It attatches via a shepheards crook clip and can be levered off with a screw driver. Remove the spades and then the park switch. You will see a small plastic cylinder/nub that sticks out of it and goes into the wiper motor. For a temporary solution cut this nub off as close to the switch body as you can and put back together. you will now have wipers with no blowing fuses. But they will not park and you will have no intermittent wipe. If the fuse continues to blow you have another problem.
Replace the parkswitch. I got mine from David Batty at the garage. The wiper motor is from a Classic mini with a differnt drive and gearing so the two can be taken apart and reassembled if the motor is faulty. But the park switch is not the same. IIRC.

P.S make sure youremove any carpet and give the under dash a good hoovering before hanging upsdie down to look underneath or you will get GRP fibres in your eyes.

Hi Steve. If 'the Bible' says they share the same fuse, and only one fuse has blown but the washers still work, then obviously they don't share the same fuse.
My washers/wipers switch is OK but my lights flasher/indicators and side/headlamp switches went a while back.my replacements came from a breakers and I was told the switches were Fiesta and Escort model.
I would suspect the swith stalk is failing as its got dusted up inside and shorting out leading to the fuse blowing.
Try taking the plastic surround off around the steering column and inspecting the contacts and the switch.You might be able to restore it with a paintbrush to clean off any oily dust,otherwise the part should be no problem to source.
Also make sure the earth contacts on the chassis are good.The ones to check are on the tubular diagonal member that is behind and below the plastic washer bottle.Clean them up and coat in vaseline.They can lead to problems on these circuits if not kept clean.

It will be ok for a while. You will not have intermittent wipe, and the wipers wil lnot park. The fuse will blow every now and then. But give it time and the fuse will blow more often, culminating in the fuse blowing everytime you use the wipers. But not when you use the washers. If it blows when you use the washers then you have a wiring issue.
Usually the wipers not parking and the loss of intermittent wipers is indicative of a park switch on the way out.
Not sure how easy it is to get at on the S2 mind. I did it on the S3 where you remove the glove box.
