Thinking of getting myself something low milage, small, cheap and relatively new as a daily driver, it doesn't need to be fast since I have an old e39 M5 that is fast enough for me, but it must be reliable and petrol powered. Prices vary massively between the UK and Sweden so it's hard to compare so I'll stick to the reliability issue.

Looking at 12-16 VW Up's, the newer turbo ones are too expensive in Sweden atm so they are out, so it's the 60-75 hp ones I look at. VW build quality, but I have no idea how they hold up. Any owners?

Also looking at Toyota Yaris, my mum ran one from new up to almost 100.000 miles w/o anything needing doing, but my god they are boring, might concider a Toyota IQ aswell, they look silly but seems to be a clever bit of kit, if a bit small, you don't see them everyday either which is nice and they may have the added bonus of perhaps being able to slot in behind the M5 in the garage since the garage is rather long.

Sister has a previous gen Honda Jazz which is a great car, but they are expensive, and for a reason I suspect.

Any other ideas? I'm all ears.

Easy choice Suzuki Swift 1.2...ultra reliable, cheap to buy run and service, great to drive, comfortable, lots of standard kit.

I looked at and drove everything half decent I could think of when looking for a daily driver none of them came close to the Suzuki for value for money.

Also look at the 1.2T Clio GT they're well built & have a decent amount of go, I'm not sure if they sell them in Sweden.

Have a look at the above to get an idea of the specification.

Had an Up with the 75bhp engine for past 2.5 years (was an ex demo with 25miles on the clock). Mileage has just ticked over 30k. For me the car has been faultless (apart from DAB radio cutting out, but I think that’s because I live in a rural area of Wales. There are little quirks like making sure you leave the hand brake off when you park it (in gear though!!) to avoid rear drums sticking. The Maps and More is good for using the phone hands free and navigation. Streaming music via Bluetooth can be hit and miss. Performance is great and it’s a hoot to drive on rural roads and I’ve never felt that it’s been out of its depth on dual carriageways or motorways. Mine is on the optional 17” Polygon wheels so grip is superb, think it may also have the optional sports suspension, as it is one of the Special Editions they did. Economy is good on my 64 mile commute each day and has probably averaged 50 mpg over the miles I’ve done. Interior has everything I would need (heated seats are lovely) and I have loved the practicality of a reasonable boot and 5 doors, having ferried 2 sporting boys and kit around in it too. TBH, I was all set to get an Up GTI. Sadly, for a variety of reasons (to do with GFV on PCP) that is not going to happen now.

Just to add to what Jonesy said above, my brother (whose nickname is also Jonesy, strangely enough) has had an Up! with the 59hp engine for the last six years. The mileage is currently around 65,000 and so far absolutely nothing has gone wrong. It spends most of its life blasting around the Cornish lanes and has been perfect so far.

I spent a couple of weeks in it and had a great time, whilst fairly easily hitting 55-60mpg on bigger roads.
