Hi all,Looking at a 350i on ebay at mo,its a cat d and needs bodywork only repaired. i realise that value finished is going to be half of a normal car,but i intend to keep it,value your opinions please .grp work is not a problem for me as i am an ex boatbuilder. Wondered if anyone knows the guy as there are other cars in the background, also value any advise on the car.lastly if any other 350i projects about.cheers paul

The bits that are missing are rare and expensive. If you go too custom in lieu then the value will drop further / be harder to sell.

There have been a few resto 350i recently - non cat ones.

Given numerous, complete, un-catagorised projects have sold recently for considerably less than that recently I'd pass on it at the asking price.

I agree the parts can be found with time but thats holding the project up.

Some kindly person smashed one of the rear lamps on Wendy before xmas and I'm thinking its cheaper to swap to BMW rear lamps plus associated body mods, than find originals.

I agree with the comments above. At that price the car is over priced and a figure nearer £2k would be my best offer. A few very tidy 350i's have been sold recently for just over the £6k mark but these were well known cars and well looked after.

Rear lights in particular are very difficult to track down so these are a real issue, unless you swap out for an alternative light fitting, which would no doubt reduce the value of the car.

There was a 390SE for sale only last month as a project that looked a much better option. Not sure as yet who bought it. Cheers

Out of interest, as I know nothing about these cars, what were the rear lights sourced from?

Later cars (the rare light units) are from a Renault Fuego.

I just googled that because I'm impatient as well as nosey!
Yeah, just a tad obscure then. I just about remember working on those terrrible things.
And as they're recessed (as opposed to surface mounted) I'm not surprised that nothing else will fit without modifications. What's the BMW alternative?

There's also the white project 280i Wedge on flea. At least the rear lights are included! Nothing do to with me Big Al, and trust you're ok. Cheers Keith
