Afternoon All,

Currently have my heart set on a TTRS in Stronic form with all the bells and whistles, primarily for it's glorious 5 pot engine and its monstrous all weather ability combined with relative comfort for the commute and longer journeys. Before I become too obsessed and don't consider anything else or overlook anything, does anyone have any other suggestions? Criteria is:

- Must sound good, no more 4 pots.. find them dull as ditch water.
- Quick (circa 300bhp)
- Capable of 30mpg
- £23k budget
- Semi Practical (decent sized boot space)

Just as a side note before suggestions, I'm not a huge fan of the M135i as they are simply everywhere in my neck of the woods and also not keen on the looks. Cayman/Boxter are off limits too as Mrs GTID simply will not drive one unfortunately, don't ask!

Fire away...

If you've got your heart set on a TTRS, i'd just get that. There's not much out there that will compare to what the little Audi offers.

Have you driven one yet?

Fuel consumption might be an issue with those two.

I think you will struggle to hit 30mpg in either the s5 or TTrs. I was disappointed in the TTrs, it doesn't feel very special and isn't the most comfortable car. My money would go on a Z4 35i or if you can run to the fuel bills a Jaguar XK

Xk is a very different car surely? Cadish jaaaag vs chuckable 5 pot hooligan cart.

True but with the exception of the 30mpg requirement ticks all the boxes smile

If you can live with a manual gearbox then the Nismo 370Z is a great drive & a nice place to be (I had to drive one from Inverness to Ashford) on a long haul, saying that the TT RS is a fun car (but not as good as the Nismo from a driver's perspective) the 5pot engine is a peach as is the interior which are the things that help you look past it's dynamic abilities.

I will say that there are no bad cars these days so get the car that YOU want but my money would be heading the Nismo's way.

For the sake of a few mpg, it's gotta be worth a punt.

SLK 55 AMG is another option.

I would view it as a benefit that the mrs wont drive a boxster, means its your car then and not a share car.

Might be obvious but what about RS3 - much more practical than TT, same 5 pot glory, ticks all the other boxes and probably a smidgen better in the image stakes......

I have yes, was pleasantly surprised too. Engine is the focal point rather than it's driving dynamics it has to be said but for a daily drive, which is what it will be, I couldn't fault it!

Not thought of the 370Z so thanks for that, think I'm going to have to test drive one now. Tax seems steep, what is fuel consumption like? Anything less than 25mpg average and I'd struggle to justify it tbh!

You should average 26-32 depending on your driving style.

What spec of TTRS are you looking at? I love he idea of one but when I look in AT etc they can look a little underwhelming sometimes.

Not as bad as I thought, especially with a 3.7L V6! Even more interested now....

S-Tronic, 19inch Wheels, Sports Exhaust, Bose sound system, Sat Nav, Bluetooth etc etc.. ideally Recaros but they seem hard to come by. I don't mind the slightly understated looks really, I prefer the Mk2 TT Shape to the Mk3. Saying that with a fixed rear spoiler and the twin oval exhausts I wouldn't say it's too underwhelming, to my eyes anyway!

Yea I think underwhelming was probably the wrong choice of words, something doesn't quite sit right to my eye. I think it might be the spoiler. Can this be deleted? Similar to yourself I prefer the mk2 over the mk3. Not sure I like the mk3 front.

The performance on offer is awesome though.
