A5 DInmael road catches another poor sucker
Discussion
This North Wales section of the A5 is notorious for catching speeders. The BBC reports - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-north-west-wale... - "A charity worker has been banned from driving after being caught speeding at 122mph when a police officer heard the noise of a car accelerating hard.
"Alex Menhenett was driving a Nissan GTR sports car more than twice the 60mph speed limit on the A5 at Dinmael, near Corwen, Wales in October 2017.
"At Mold Magistrates' Court, the 32-year-old, from South Croydon, London, admitted speeding and was banned for 56 days and fined £760.
"Menhenett said it was a "misjudgement".
"Prosecutor Alun Williams described it as "a crazy speed" on a single carriageway road and magistrates said it was "quite deplorable".
"Menhenett was caught by a police officer holding a speed camera who had heard the noise of the car accelerating hard from the Corwen direction, the court heard.
"He represented himself and said: "It was a complete misjudgement on my behalf. "I have no excuse."
Menhenett was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £76 surcharge."
The prosecutor frothed gleefully at the mouth. To call the road a single carriageway is a bit rich. It is a 3-lane road with 2 wide lanes going straight uphill for about half a mile with no houses either side. The road is a straight honey tap for N Wales police camera wielders.
122mpgh is a respectable spirited driving speed. Shortish ban and not too high a fine. Lucky guy IMHO.

I don't know the road in question, but I know a lot of places where - in the right conditions - this speed wouldn't be dangerous.
I have more sympathy for this than for someone doing 50+ in a 30 limit.
What about these guys? Surely they were just having a spirited drive?

There’s no skill in driving fast in a straight line, especially where it’s a well known speed trap hotspot.

Nonsense.122mpgh is a respectable spirited driving speed. Shortish ban and not too high a fine. Lucky guy IMHO.
This guy was disqualified for 18 months and got a suspended sentence for dangerous driving on the same stretch of road;

There's a photo of the A5 in the article - single carriageway, double white lines, crests, farm traffic, hidden junctions, etc etc.
What is it you don't understand about speed limits, road markings and hazards ?

I am a car enthusiast, I also know that bit of road and driving at that speed is dangerous. The fact that some people can't see it doesn't make them more of a car enthusiast.

Totally agree that this is ridiculous driving. Just on the bit you’ve quoted the “1/2 mile with no houses either side” would take a whole 15 seconds to cover at 122mph. What’s it like either side of that 1/2mile stretch? Just for the OP’s benefit, as he seems to be a bit thick.
Lots of trees !!If it's between a tree and a car then the tree usually wins. Doubly so for bikes.
The road is pretty much the same as the pic (with very few houses/ the occasional junction).
If there's an "off" it's usually a big one.

It's okay some of us are still here.

Pretty respectable that 122mph, cruise speed to be honest.

Of course it is Pretty respectable that 122mph, cruise speed to be honest.

I guess you’re now going to claim you do it on the autobahn. Feel free to show me an unlimited stretch of autobahn that looks anything like the photos that have been posted. As you won’t be able to, feel free to explain what punishment you’d face in Germany for doing twice the speed limit on a road like that.
