I just never understood the appeal
I have very eclectic taste, and the fact they look unusual attracts me. I would like a good homage, but can't find one, so I wear this cheap one from time to time. That said, it's Chinese movement is quite accurate, it has a n exhibition back, and I replaced the crap strap it came on with a decent one.

Or like the watch and can afford the costs involved?
Perhaps, but there are plenty of similarly priced watches that don't tank in value to the same extent. desolate said:
What costs are involved with these watches that other watches don't have?
My response was to this statement:andy tims said:
No personal experience because pretty well nothing in the range appeals to me, but having seen several for sale, on various fora, the first buyers must really like depreciation.
I don't think anyone buys a watch and says "I'd get a sub like everyone I know, but I like depreciation so I'll get something else."My point sqs that people probably say: "This watch will cost me in depreciation... if I ever plan on selling it on, but I'll get it anyway as I like it and plan on keeping it."
The whole "yes, but depreciation" annoys me.
It's the reason people get porsches over the equivalent Lotus, BMW/Merc over the equivalent everything. Grey cars, black faced SS watches.
If you can't afford something interesting that's all fine but this "cost of ownership" seems like the main reason to get a watch or not.
While this can be argued sometimes, it seems like you have to "love depreciation" if you get anything but a stainless steel Rolex or a grey german car.

Totally agreed. It's the reason people get porsches over the equivalent Lotus, BMW/Merc over the equivalent everything. Grey cars, black faced SS watches.

If I buy a watch I buy it because I like it. The how much will I get for it if I sell it on doesn't even enter my head.
Thats why I don't own or covet a Rolex.
I've got a Crazy Hours copy, my Grandad bought it for me on his travels as he thought I'd like it. It's certainly an interesting watch. It's not a bad feeling to wear when I wore it a couple of times and the movement is decent. Not had it out in over a year so this thread has tempted me to pop it on for a day.
