Dandruff/Dry Scalp this winter

Quite prone to dandruff and itchly flaky scalp but since December, its been relentless. Anyone else had a bad flare up this winter?
Only thing that has helped (to an extent) is Capasal shampoo twice a week.

I get it every winter, not managed to find a solution, though it clears up temporarily if I go skiing. I think it is the lack of light.

I believe it's due to a combination of stress, cold dry weather and lack of light. But it's the itching which is the worst!!

Try reducing the temp of water when you wash (or at least when you wash your scalp).

Does your face feel 'tight' and dry after washing?

Yep i get it twice a year. Had it so bad once my scalp would bleed and it was full of scabs.

Use fragrance free baby shampoo as regular shampoo can be quite harsh when you have a bad scalp. You can use Tgel but it used to be silly prices. Nizoral if its really bad. Lay off the hair gels and any other crap.

Yeah back in December I had bleeding scabs. The associated itching causes hair loss also. Bring on summer and sunlight not that we get much in the UK.

Tgel didn't work for me at all.

Nizoral is the DBs however.

I use that in conjunction with a zinc shampoo and have no symptoms at all now.

It's a horrible thing.

I've found putting a bit of frizz-ease serum through damp hair after a shower each morning helps.

I watched a programme about this on TV once, they said it was caused by malassezia globosa fungus and suggested using the following..

Boots anti dandruff Ketoconazoe shampoo
Nizoral shampoo
Alpecin Dandruff killer shampoo
Daktarin cream
If become resistant, switch to zinc or selenium shampoo.

I had this issue for a whole year. I got the doctor to prescribe dermovate ointment. It was 50% better within 3 days. Amazing stuff.

May not work for you but I suffer with the same. I put about a shot glass worth of Vodka (any cheap stuff) into my shampoo bottle and then mix thoroughly. Clears it up within a few days and keeps it away. If your so inclined, flavoured vodka also works and gives off a better smell!

I think mine is caused by wearing hats more over the winter.
