the wife's car has noisy hydraulic lifters when starting up only for a few seconds but id like to cure it.
im thinking a change of oil grade may work.

its a uk 2008 vauxhall corsa d 1400 petrol, currently i have 5w30 magnatec in the engine.

im assuming the oil drains out of the lifters when the engine is off.

im wondering if a thicker oil will help keep the lifters pumped up whilst the engine is off...
or
will a thinner oil help pump the lifters quicker and easier

cheers for any help

5w30 is the correct grade. These engines have all kinds of rattle- injectors, cam chain, valves etc. They seem to rattle on reasonably reliably though so I’d just leave it.

Thanks for the reply.
Just wondering... Which parts cause the knocking?

if it's only for a few seconds why worry?
