Hello all,

I've had some recent email exchanges with Matter Motorsport in France - I thought Matter was out of business but website states they where started over 20 years ago by Winfried Matter. Anyone know of them or used them ? Prices are very competitive compared to equivalent UK builders. Work looks pretty good (but I'm not expert):

They supplied the original weld in cages that were fitted to 964 and 993 RS Clubsports. They also supplied the works Audi Quattros back in the 80's IIRC.

They did smile :

From Jackal's Forge webpage here :

My guess is they supplied the cages for the works Opel Manta and Ascona 400 rally cars.

They did smilesmile

From this webpage :

http://www.rallye-info.com/carmake_profile.asp?mak...

"At least I found an early amendment to the homologation of the Ascona 400 with the document stating this change was effective from chassis RA01, hence a chassis RA01 must have existed. One reason could be, that Rx00-99 numbers are typical Matter numbers. Matter is a big company in seam welding, roll cages and rallye safety equipment and in the 1980s was often asked by German works teams as Opel, Audi, Porsche to help with the conversion of the road chassis. In fact Matter built virtually all works Opel rally chassis of that decade"

In short, back in the 80's they were the "go to" company for rally shell preparation and cage manufacture/installs.

You won't find a more experienced company smile

Cheers H. Presumably those where done by Matter Germany which now no longer exists. Either way sounds like I'll be in safe hands - they said that they can do both the M003 cage as well as the funky bolt-in job found in 964 C4 LWT which can only be a good sign.

Cheers.

Perhaps the original German Matter business went bust in the Nineties ? as Matter were building works Quattros, Ascona and Mantas in the late 70’s early 80’s. Cage supply to Porsche for the 964 C4 LWT, RS and 993 Clubsport would have stretched from ‘90 through to ‘95 ?

It was said the 996 GT3 Clubsport Bolt in cages were manufactured by Matter too, but I’ve never been able to confirm as much (though I think the FIA homologation papers supplied with the retrofitted Clubsport cage in my black Manthey car may have made reference to Matter)

If their website says they were started (restarted ?) over twenty years ago, that kind of ties up.
