Bit of background here. I play Masters Rugby League and found out in September that my name had been put forward for selection for Great Britain to play Australia in March this year. I joined Slimming World, and have lost 3 stone since then

Subsequently found out that I had been selected on the 23rd December and we had a couple of training sessions arranged. Test match is on March 9th

Thursday last week - had a job interview for a really interesting role
Saturday - had final training session for the GB squad prior to the test match - at which I was pulled to one side and asked if I would like to CAPTAIN MY COUNTRY
Monday - Job offer made verbally
Tuesday - job offer confirmed in writing. Massively exciting opportunity, and a new car into the bargain

It's steak for tea tonight - just got to hope that the steak is a precursor to the accepted accompaniment wink

To say I am buzzing would be a slight understatement biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Good stuff - go and hurt yourself just a tiny bit to ward off the evil eye hehe

Minor stubbed toe should do it.

I have been under the physio for a rotator cuff issue since December and broke a rib in a tackle 3 weeks ago (I've no padding around them any more after losing the weight wink ) - does that cover it?

Dont forget to change your name from Pieman to something more appropriate, like 'LUCKY, LUCKY BARSTEWARD!!'

Well done! Will it be shown on TV??

I'm not sure - we do get a bit of coverage on Premier sports at times and Dave Woods (BBC RL man) is actually part of the squad, so fingers crossed

If you're over 35 and have an interest in rugby look up Masters - it's a thoroughly social game for anybody over 35 (with no upper limit - over 60's wear gold shorts and are tag). Oldest player in the UK is 83!!

Fastest growing sport in the UK at the moment apparently (from 700 active players to 1500 in the last 12 months)

I don't understand or like rugby, but bloody hell, life is going your way. I'm glad to hear luck falls on someone even if it isn't me.

Good luck to you, even though we don't know each other or will never meet.

How do you think I broke my rib the other week? Although being born to a family with a Grandad, uncle and cousin who all played pro RL, I've been brought up on proper rugby wink

I play both codes, although I'm retiring from open age at the end of the year as my shoulder is Fubar. Masters is a great way to carry on playing for many years to come
