Has anyone been to see it? Wife wants to take one of the kids. Some of the cheaper seats are "obstructed view". Is it a small post in the way or huge column? How annoying would it be?

I saw it in December previews (luckily we had booked an early show,so when the previews were delayed by 2 weeks due to building work we ended up getting a refund as we ended up in the preview). We had an "obstructed view" and we didn't miss a lot - the balcony was cut off slightly and wasn't used heavily throughout the show.

This site is a useful resource for seeing if the view will be tolerable.

For the price of tickets stalls T41/42 were excellent. The show is mostly at stage level and some of the wilder choreography (eg. Hurricane) was not missed out on.

I've been and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd look at the daily ballot they run for GBP 10 tickets fort the next days performance.

Handy site that, opened up some seats she had discounted.

Unfortunately she's to book flights etc. So that's not an option.

I went under protest as I'm not a fan of musicals, but being as the tickets were a gift (and over $500 each) I felt obligated to go. It was however really enjoyable.

(Not that I would pay $500 to go to the theater to see a show, but if I personally had to pay $100-150 a ticket for that I'd consider it money well spent)

Interesting racial issues around this musical; whilst most historians agree that there is not a shred of proof that Alexander Hamilton was mixed race, people are now starting to believe that he was, because of the musical. Reverse racial appropriation!

Here is a review by a person of color, who seemed to feel that it was racist that white people were in the audience with her:

Went last week.. absolutely loved it and I'm not a massive fan of musicals either. Our seats were literally the back row of the top level of the theatre and it didn't spoil it. The balcony of the stage (where heads are obscured) is barely used.

It's amazing how often people say that smile

The musicals genre covers a massive swathe of types of music and themes. "Hamilton" is an exrtemely clever and intelligent musical using fairly modern musical idioms (all the best musicals say something in a different and new way).

I went to,see it last night.

Great story. Innovative and unique way of telling it.
Fantastic lyrics. Amusing and touching.
Amazing cast. Young. Charismatic. Fabulous voices.
Unbelievable energy. Fast-paced and well choreographed.
Excellent staging. Simple but dynamic.

But...
It's 2 3/4 hours of hip hop and Disneyesque ballads. Not really my thinG.
However, judging by the whoops, screams, rapturous adoration and standing ovation from the audience, I am in a tiny minoitry.

In short, I’m very glad I went to see it. Everyone should try to go. Wouldn't pay to go again.

Frank skinner discussed it at length on his Podcast recently.

Said it was appalling and not worth a several year wait for tickets as some people seem to.

I trust his taste.

Who? Oh that guy doing 'comedic' adverts for pensions on the TV?

Hamilton has won 11 Tonys, a Grammy, a Pulitzer, and 7 Olivier awards.

I haven't seen it but I'm sure I can say with good authority that it's not appalling.

I don't follow, not for the first time in my life.

Edit: Are you suggesting that the huge critical acclaim is actually some kind of fever, when in fact Hamilton is actually appalling - and Frank Skinner is the only person who realises?

I am suggesting that the 'huge critical acclaim' informs your opinion on the work. Why is Frank Skinner's opinion on a piece of art less valid than that of a theatre critic?

There are endless reasons. Stop trying to be clever, it isn't working.

And it's not 'Frank Skinners opinion compared to an art critic,' it's 'Frank Skinners opinion compared to the opinion of hundreds of thousands of art critics, theater regulars, non-theater regulars and many many many many many more.'

What a hateful person..or attention seeker. So you bring American history acted out by people of colour to the attention of a wider public and the white person is then slated for watching/listening to the tale! Some people I guess just thrive on the hatred. I wonder whether the audience is any different at Dream Girls or Motown? Probably not. Tickets ARE available to all colours and creeds.

My daughter has seen the show twice and has a third booking as she's totally addicted to it. She has the soundtrack and the book and is learning a lot about American history through it. Sadly being as she's white, she must be a racist.

Frankly, I cannot believe how racist you and your daughter are, using your privileged white gaze on this again and again! rolleyes

Seriously though, what is happening to the world...? I, and everyone I know, just do not care about skin colour. It does not register on any level.

Good people are good, bad people are bad.

Are we now in an age where, to many people, being white is hateful in itself?

And how did racism become a one way street? If that had been a white person commenting, they would have been arrested by now.

Maybe I am just getting old.
