Sunbeam Lotus to auction

Can we have a friendly wager where this will end up? the SL seems to have been largely forgotten by the market in terms of sales prices. Lets see if this one wakes the market up.

I've seen good usable cars with MOT and not requiring much work sell quickly for £16-18k. Top cars can make around the £20k mark but they must be exceptional and will be thin on the ground. I can't get onto the CCA website to view the car so don't know the reg number to be able to comment further.

Looking at the wheels and the red seats in the car , I believe this is RJF 880W. Its been on and off for sale for a while now. Would be interesting to see what it makes.

None of the better cars will be advertised or sold online or by auction. It's all done privately usually via the Sunbeam Lotus owners club.
It's from £22k-30k and up for the best examples. Mine sold in that price range 3 years ago at least. Rebuild costs can escalate, the cars were often rotten as pears, panels and parts can be scarce to non existent in some circumstances. It's surprising how expensive rebuilds can get.

Definitely undervalued compared to some of the other classic cars. Very quick on the lanes in the right gear on a nice day! Loved mine.

ive emailed the auctioneer to get some further details on the car. If this is the first of its type to be sold outside the 'inner circle' it may be the beginning of the model catching the fast fords..

Its not......there's been a few go through the auctions in the past few years. The unregistered LHD car with delivery miles made £50K a few years back at the NEC classic car show auction.

time will tell as they say. a reasonable RS200 made £50k last weekend so who knows.

I predict somewhere around the lower end of the estimate, around £14-15K , but never having seen the car in the metal only in pictures, I could be completely wrong.

That's always been the case with Ex-Pressed stuff.....and probably always will. Most repro pattern stuff has fit problems.

Yes, I think that is correct, & judging by the owners own description when it was last posted on ebay (& did not sell) anyone interested must view the car before thinking of bidding.

Hope it’s improved. I fitted Ex-Pressed lower rear wings to my Mk 2 Zodiac a few years ago. The fit was abysmal; so much fettling was required to get a reasonably decent fit

A neighbour of mine has one of these tucked up in his garage.. Hasn't moved for well over 10 years. I think he's got fed up of me nagging him to consider selling it to me.. it's such a waste!
