Has anyone seen or experienced this before?

I was driving down the M1 on Tuesday afternoon "cruising" in the outside lane (around j38) when 3 police volvo's pulled off the hard shoulder and then slowed all 3 lanes down to about 20-30mph.
After about 2 mins of this they all floored it and so the 3 lanes accelerated aswell, I started to move to the inside lane and just before I did saw a black leon with 2 yuffs tonking it up the hard shoulder, closely followed by another 2 marked volvo's. One of which continued the chase, whilst the other sat in the middle lane and held us all back at about 20 mph again.

By the time we got to the next junction the volvo had sped off, and there was no sign of any of them.

Just curious, thats all?

Seen it before, cant remember what it was for though - think there was a blown tyre in the middle of the road or something

When my daughter was doing her 'work experience' from school, she spent a week with our local bobbies. When they learned her placement there was arranged through a Chief Super who was a friend, she was kept well away from the station . One day she found herself in the back of a TrafPol car heading along the M25 at 120 or so because of a 'shed tread' in the o/s lane. The observer turned round and said: "I bet you've never travelled this fast in a car before." Dearest daughter replied: "Oh, yes. My Dad's got one of these!" Anyway, the car she was in formed one of three that put in a rolling block whilst the cover was retrieved.

My Neighbour does it all the time down the A303 when one of the many HGV's sheds its load / tyres.
