New car, how long will dealers hold it?

My mates just bought a new car, when we went to spec it up he was quoted 12 weeks till delivery. Now he's got the order confirmation it's saying 30th of March! He's not in the position to collect until 2nd week of April, assuming the date quoted is correct, is 2 weeks a reasonable length of time to ask them to hold it until he collects? Or do they want them out the door ASAP? He's going to ring them tomorrow but thought I'd ask in the meantime.

2 weeks should be fine. I told the dealership to hold on to my car for a little over two weeks so it could be registered on a 16 plate.

My mustang was at the dealer 4 weeks before I could collect, they seemed happy enough.

They may be wanting (hoping) to count it in their March registration figures, hence the 30th.

He may want to speak to them ASAP about what date he wants it and what they are expecting.

Yeah I said that, he's going to ring them tomorrow to discuss, just thought I'd ask if a couple of weeks would be unreasonable.

Mines been at the dealer since mid January, I wanted it on an 18 plate, only issue is that when they came to PDI it BMW had fitted the wrong wheels so looks like end of March now

That’s very annoying! Can’t they just let you have the car now, and swap the wheels when the right ones turn up?

Turns out mine is coming 8 weeks sooner than they told me too! We both phoned them and it's no issue holding them till we're ready. I said they could register them whenever they wanted if it helped with targets or whatever.
