Hi

Have a 2007 Navara and the blower has stopped working - no air at any speed, hot or cold.

It has been intermittent for a while, last week it wasn't working, came on & went off quickly 4 times in a row before staying on.

I have removed the motor which seems to spin fine by hand. Have also removed the resistor and can't see anything wrong with it (by eye). I don't have those electronic things to test power unfortunately.

Any ideas? Am I on the right lines or could it be something else?

Thanks

You're chasing an electrical problem. The sensible way to track it down is using a voltmeter. Digital multimeters are so cheap and useful that anyone working on cars ought to have one as a matter of course.

Thank you - how would I go about using to identify the problem? I'm good with spanners but awful with electrics!

Is the Resistor one of these
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AIR-BLOWER-MOTOR-HEATER...

Or one of these
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-Nissan-Navara-2-5-...

I have a bit of DIY experience with Nissan Blowers and Resistors on the Primera and Micra
The First Type tends to still work on high speed.
The 2nd Type tends not to work at all. Sometimes a blocked Pollen Filter causing a Thermal Fuse to pop in the Module.

Almost certainly the resistor pack I would say.

I had a Vx that the fan would only run on setting three for a while, then stopped altogether.Changed resistor pack and it sorted it.

You would use a voltmeter across the motor terminals to find whether power is getting to the motor. If it is, there's a fault inside the motor. If there isn't, there's a fault outside the motor. For an external fault you would then check whether the motor is earthed and follow the supply circuit back through the resistor pack, connectors, switch, fuse etc until you find power. The point where the power stops is where the problem is.

It is the second one. I'll check what you mention tomorrow, although with it being intermittent I had rules out a fuse.

Thank you

I see, thank you. How would you identify it was the resister, put the voltmeter into the plug socket?

I would be more worried about the chassis 'not working' spin

You could pull that resistor box apart and very likely see the thermal protection, bypass the thermal protection and test before struggling with anything
