Hi all,

Currently have a Cupra R 225 (hence my username) previously I've had all manner of hot hatches and bmw's.

Now looking for a family vehicle, we are thinking of getting a dog (samoyed) and possibly planning another child in the future, hence a search for a bigger family car, the car we have right now is more adaquate.

Looking for possibly a avant, a v8 x5 really took my fancy, but there aren't that many around and I dont want the diesel.

Looking at a4 avant s line or similar but only looking diesels as the petrol seem poverty spec.

Must have heated seats, must be relatively quick (will have a diesel if I HAVE too but would rather avoid)

Max price £5000.

Not fussed on mileage, we are located in dorset, no further than london to travel.

Thanks all.

Thought about a 5 series?

530i:

otherwise, if you are really lusting after a v8, this is slightly out of budget but you could get a 545i:

Would probably prefer a manual to a auto although as I understand it (M5 excluded) you can only get a bmw v8 with auto only (x5,e39,e60).

Genuine question; unless it's a 2 seater/sports coupe, why would you want to change your own gears in a V8 engined car?

I have a modern dsg and I've had a couple of torque converter autos in bmw's etc.

After owning those vehicles I have always bought a manual afterwards because although the auto experience is good (Especially dsg!) I still prefer a manual, I just think this car is going to have stay with me for a while, after another child and a dog cars are going to be the last thing I could afford to change.

So buy once buy right and all that I think I would prefer a manual, maybe I should compromise slightly, although the bmw boxes are getting on now and my e39 528i was notchy on 168K.

I have a 550i touring. They're properly rare. A 150k example was for sale recently for 5k. I would describe it as quick. Probably more than quick enough. Cheap to run too unless you include petrol in the maths.

Also was thinking about these, need to check the timing chains as they are a £5k bill buy all accounts at a main dealer, tensioner etc.

Thats the ticket!

They're a couple on ebay that have had the timing chains done so would be worth a punt over others.

They're super hard to find & command a premium over most mainstream estates.

Ive a 325i touring, now on 116k. I was thinking of chopping it in for an Ibiza FR ST but thought the better of it.
Its quick enough to overtake with, RWD (dont anyone say FWD is better smile ) 6 speed spanish and on a run gets near 40 mpg.
When thinking of changing I struggled to find something that drove as well, swallowed all the stuff required having a family, has roof bars ( carries 3 mtbs frequently) yet is still fun when on the twisties.
A friend paid over twice the amount I did for a slightly newer 530i but has had all sorts of issues, cam cover cracking ( plastic) coils failing, battery submerged in water, broken tailgate wiring - all in a 58k car. You pays your money and takes a chance. Mine is an SE so a lesser spec than the Msports which demand silly prices. Yet apart from mainly cosmetic differences are very similar.
