I would like to de-badge the back of one of my cars get the badging plasti-dipped in another color, then reattached.

I've heard people on a US forum doing this themselves, but i really wouldn't know where to begin, but I'm not sure what sort of company would do this for me, if anyone, its not really in a detailers remit, or accessories companies, so am struggling a bit.

Could anyone point me in the right direction?

thanks

The whole point of plasti-dip is that you can spray it on in situ and then just peel off the bits you don't want.

If you really want to remove the emblem first, then it's pretty easy. Get a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel to soften the glue, press it against the emblem and then slowly prise them off (get behind with your nails or a bit of plastic).

I don't believe you need to remove the badges to dip them - it is something you can do yourself after a little bit of Youtube research.

Hair dryer to soften glue. Dental floss to cut it. Check in case it has fixings other than glue.

1) Remove badge. A heat gun to soften the glue and some fishing wire/dental floss can be used to 'saw' through it.

2) Plastidip badge. Plastidip doesn't require any surface prep (no sanding, no primer) - 4-5 light coats should do the trick.

3) Re-attach badge. Remove the remnants of the old glue from both the badge and the car (tar and glue remover should work - best to remove it from the badge before you plastidip it, as it may strip that too), attach with some new glue/sticky pads/Loctite or similar. Make sure you get it in the right place and that it's straight.

This is what I've done with mine - didn't plastidip, but just rearranged them:

In short - it's not too difficult, just take your time.

I have to ask, why? Unless you're a big fan of Ovlov's music?

thanks all. i have 0 practicality in things like this so would prefer to pay someone to do it, would it be too small a job for the aforementioned body shop/panel beater though? all i wanna do is change car name from current silver to matte black but would likely cock it up if i attempted it.

Chances are you'll damage the badges removing them and then you'll need more sticky stuff for refitting

Buy new badges spray and fit. (toss the old manky ones in the bin)

Because along with the other modifications I've made, it sets it apart from other C30s just a little bit, and it's fairly subtle (apart from when I post a photo of the badge, that is!)

It's a fairly common thing to do in the Volvo scene/community. To each their own smile

Find a company near you which specialise in car wrapping and they should be able to do it.

I wonder how many realise that Volvo is latin for "I rotate", starting off as a ball bearing brand? With that in mind, rotating VOLVO to OVLOV is a fairly obvious pun.

Given your user name, could you have found an E in a similar script...? (or made one starting from L) - VOLEVO

Realistically, the people who join Volvo groups and modify them are a small percentage of the people who drive them. Anyway, hopefully this thread has helped the OP with their query.
