Thought I would replace the old Alpine cassette unit in the Griff, which had a crap tuner, for a nice new Blaupunkt CD/RDS tuner. The result - nice flashing lights but when engine is running, even worse radio reception than before (not rev related - just sounds like a weak signal). It sounds great with engine off though. Any advice on suppression / aerials etc much appreciated.

For suppression I would recommend the late communist regime in Russia...........

The radio dipole aerial is laid up with the wiring behind the dash. Most of the electrical motors are poorly suppressed and will interfere with the radio. I am afraid it is just a case of fitting suppressors everywhere. In my experience the wipers are the worst source of electrical noise. You also want to get as good an earth as possible on the radio. You may consider running dedicated fused cables to the battery...this may also help?

Good luck!

I read somewhere on PH recently that Magnecor leads were supposed to reduce interference - I think.

I guess the problem is that your new tuner is more sensitive than your old one. Bit like buying expensive loudspeakers and then thinking all your old recordings sound crap!

There is an aerial that is the best you are going to get. See mod-wise.com

I can recommend the mod-wise amplified aerial. Fits in the boot above the petrol tank.

I've fitted this to my chim, FM reception is excellent, MW and LW much better than before.

I'd second that about the Mod-wise aerial, FM on my Griffith is now about 95% and MW about 80%

If you go ahead ask me about my trick with the tip of an old fishing rod to get the cable through inside the sill cavity! rich...

Sounds like the trick I used for speaker cable, with a thin bit of doweling.

Many years ago my parents borrowed a friend's terrier to help run electricity cables under the floorboards! (Wasn't much good at wiring plugs though)
