So the key felt strange in the ignition and was difficult to remove when I filled with fuel. When I got back in it was difficult to insert and turns very strangely. It started and I drove off - but my wipers did not work and the heater fan not blowing. I got to work with a wet windscreen. So the key turns strangely, The second click everything works but when the car starts the wipers and heater do not. To remove the key it seems to over turn and feels odd. Also the first time I removed the key - the car thought it was still inside and I couldn't lock it. I managed to get it to work. SO - am I correct in thinking part number 4A0905849B and 1 hour of fiddling in tight spaces?

Hi this is a common issue, the ignition switch breaks up and starts to cause exactly your issues.

There is a modified version from Porsche, which comes with steering lock housing.

The original is a 10 min fix, and can be purchased from Eurocarparts, or Audi,as they still use it.

The part number is the same, 4AO 905 849 B, you can use this with either of the above.
