Simple Fit bit
Discussion
How simple is the Alta Fitbit? is phone interactivity key?
need to get one for a parent who is very technical challenged.
Flex 2 just seems a bit too basic, in that it doesnt give you any info really.
On the alta can you simple tap the screen to see how many steps you have taken/calories burned etc.

I've got a Charge 2 and can tap through the screen to view steps taken, heart rate, distance walked, stairs climbed, and minutes of exercise. Might be a bit fiddly though for your parent.
I don't really see the point of a fitness tracker if you're not going to use the app. What are you hoping to achieve / measure? Maybe better off with a simple pedometer / heart rate monitor?

From what I recall, these devices can't be used until you've configured them via the smartphone app.
My mum (now 71) has had no problems with either her smartphone or the fitbit that my sister bought her for christmas.
initial syncing can be done, but can it be used independently thereafter with just the bangle itself to check things like pulse, calories, steps etc?My mum (now 71) has had no problems with either her smartphone or the fitbit that my sister bought her for christmas.

The fitbit devices like the Alta will do the same thing of tapping to let you see steps, heart rate, etc. Sleep tracking is primarily done via the phone/their on line services, so that is the only part that won't work.
Most of these devices will have relatively limited internal storage; the fitbits will store up to 7 days data before losing anything.
