Xbox One: Plug and play kit

So I’ve just fired up the Xbox and my rechargeable controller battery’s were low, so I plugged in the plug and play kit. However, the orange charging light isn’t coming on so I assume the controller isn’t charging.

Has anyone else had this issue? It must be either the plug or the controller’s port is damaged but I’ve had no issues previously and no rough handling (and yes it is plugged into a USB port before anyone asks).
