Morning all

3 weeks ago I picked up a 64 plate 118d from a motorstore. About 6 hours later the cars brakes came on by themselves and never released. I got off the motorway to a services with smoke coming out of the front wheels.

The motorstore sent it to an indi but couldn't find the fault. They decided to change the callipers because of the heat they received.

After completing the work they reported back with water in the control module. They have contacted the motorstore with a £3000 quote.

The motorstore are humming and hawing over the cost and I'm at a loss on what to do.

Thoughts?

Surely Motorstore either fix the car or you hand it back?

Got an update today. they are uplifting the car from the indie specialist and moving it to their own franchised bmw garage in edinburgh to do the work. should be back by the end of the week or start of next week.

the car so far has had new callipers disks and pads and now a new abs control module.

Hi,

It seems to be a common problem, caused by an internal fault with the hydraulic unit / control unit.
I've seen 3 in the last month the same age as yours, just out of warranty, but BMW have been contributing goodwill towards the part in some cases.
