Need help with my fiesta. It’s a 2006 1.6 zetec s
I have had both lambda sensors change and still have the eml light coming on
It comes on for a couple days then goes off again. Had it plugged into a scanner and it’s showing a fault with sensor 2 running lean
Any help on what else it could be as I have no idea now

Why did you change the sensors the first time, and where did the replacement sensors come from?

And, I take it you have just changed the sensors rather than tried to diagnose why the engine is running lean then?

Just changing the Lambda sensor doesn't change the way the engine is running.

Have you checked for air intake leaks, changed air filter, changed the fuel filter, checked the exhaust for leaks?

They would be good starting points

There's a pipe that runs behind the intake manifold (pictured)...it can split causing that lean error. Common problem.

Yes being my first car i was told it was the lambda sensor and I needed to change them so I did
I have done new air filter new plugs and leads
Don’t think I got a leak on the exhaust nothing was mentioned on mot
Will get that checked
Thank you for your help I really appreciate it
Just don’t want to keep spending money on bits to find it isn’t that so any help is greatly received

That is why you need to diagnose the fault rather than just change things, have a look at the above & see how you get on, fuel filter is also a good call unless you KNOW it has been changed in the last year/two.

The mileage would give you a rough idea of the state of the lamdas (assuming they were not changed in the past already). Usually when mine have died they've lasted about 60K. If you did replace them use bosch/oem sensors, avoid the cheap unbranded copies, they just fail.

When mine have died the errors were heater circuit fail or slow response. As has been said, lean running state could be somethign else. Possibly a dirty or failing MAF sensor? How scruffy was the air filter when you changed it? Has it been serviced per schedule?

If you want to try a very cheap fix, give it a full tank of Optimax and a good motorway run. That never hurts. If you want to be 100% sure you need to get it checked by a professional who can look at all the sensor readings, ECU data.

Connect the scanner and clear all fault codes, with the ignition off unplug the sensor that is giving the running lean code, start the engine then run it for a minute, check the live fault codes and see what you get for the unplugged sensor, check all fault codes see what you get

I don't know what you should get but someone here will, I am thinking that you may get the same fault code as earlier and that would be of much help if you did, if you get a different fault code to earlier that will also be of much help, try it and post back
