Got a bit of a dilemma.

Currently I drive a 2014 Octavia vRS TDI DSG Estate. I've had it from new and speced what I wanted / needed at the time. It's done 54k miles but I changed jobs and now my commute is only 2.5 miles each way plus an occasional big drive. It's just been MOTed and I did 9k miles last year (half what I used to do). I've had the DPF light on a couple of time but a big drive sorts it out.

I have a thought in my head that keeps going round and round. Get rid of the vRS and buy an S4 instead. It would be an early supercharged V6, probably around 80k miles. Am I mad?

Buy a bicycle for the commute, no car will get up to proper temp on a 2.5 journey, so while a petrol S4 wont have the DPF stuff to worry about, it will wear a lot quicker.

That said, if you no longer need a 100% reliable long-run capable car for daily use, by all means get something more exciting.

I don't know about stupid, you have had a change in circumstances which no longer suit the car you drive. You have had the Seat for about 4 years and its not unusual to change your car after that length of time.

Its a case of whether you want to and whether you have the finances in place.

Leaving aside the current anti-diesel sentiment, my personal opinion is that petrol is preferable to diesel unless fuel economy is a must. If you can afford the change and you have the fancy for a S4, then why not do it?

I suppose there's an argument that you'd be stupid NOT to change. No offense intended there btw, just meaning that your commute does clearly not justify a diesel.

I suppose jumping from that to an S4 is the "stupid" bit, but as long as you can afford the upkeep, i don't think it's as daft as you think. Why not go to a petrol VRS, or do you fancy a change in the process?

Either way, If you work out the man-maths, it can work out very nicely wink

There are no Petrol vRS in the spec so why not go for something different?

Started off with looking at a 2.0 petrol A4 s-line and escalated from there!! My brother has an RS5 so I thought why not!!

If you had an S4 in your current position, would you be looking at getting a Diesel Skoda?
