Hi guys. I've recently bought my very first BMW (335d xdrive) best decision ever by the way 😂. I'm just wondering whether people feel the connection drive is worth paying for and what exactly do you get for your money. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Adam

What exactly do you want to use?

Connected drive is a bit generic there are many features you can buy in connected drive
Map updates, real time traffic, advanced voice control, etc

I'd like to use the media side of it. Also It's a 14 plate and I have the professional media but I feel the screen is slightly boring just sat on the menu page. So maybe something to look slightly more errrr jazzy shall I say haha

Why not set the screen to the map view then?

I do for the moment mate. Plus I have to use my aux cable because it hasn't got extended media so I'd like to take advantage of the media side of things

I have connected drive services, so gives you internet, which came with the car and permanant.

Only optional services I renew annually is real time traffic.

Did have the full range, with concierge and online music, but never used them.

I leaveit on map view.

Can you use bluetooth?

I have the CD stuff but for music I just use Spotify on my phone and connect with bluetooth. I can control it using the buttons on the dash, which I don't think an auxiliary link will let you do.

Occasionally the Spotify app on the iDrive takes over. The only difference is you get the album art.

Unfortunately not. It hasn't got the extended Bluetooth. It links for phone purposes but not media which I'm rather disappointed with to be honest. I previously had a seat Leon on a 11 plate and it had that as standard in the model I had. But apart from that it's by far and away my favorite car I've ever had

I’m fairly sure on pro nav extended Bluetooth can be enabled with the right software as the functionality is there but hidden - the enhanced bluetooth pack officially also came with the phone dock but the functionality (ie streaming) can be enabled regardless

You need to download the spotify app to use it in car directly on Idrive.

IIRC, First you need to download BMW connected drive app on your phone, then open app whilst connected to car through USB.

You can also get a month trial for services such as online music, concierge for £1.

My f31 2013(63) reg didn't come with extended Bluetooth. I had a local guy to me code the car to enable that function. Now I can Bluetooth music to the car.

Is that right? My 2014 BMW was £95 a year from the start for the less than usable internet and RTTI ran for 3 years. I never used any of the other services and didn’t renew any of the ones the car came with.

I know RTTI is now permanent (at least with the G30) but didn’t realise internet was.

I have it on my 340i. Apart from the traffic updates I don't see anything useful there. To use the apps like tune-in on the go you have to first open the BMW app on the phone (which for me is passworded) and then start TuneIn. Otherwise I just open TuneIn and play over bluetooth.

My 340 only wants to connect to the phone via bluetooth not USB (which has potentially better sound quality). This is completely the opposite of my old i3 which would use bluetooth unless you had plugged in via USB when the USB took over. If anyone knows how to get a 3 series to prefer USB please let me know!

Connected Drive comes in one of there pack here in Switzerland so most cars have it.

I get charging for internet services, but charging just to stream music from your phone is a real cheap tactic...

Just a update.

I took my car to Plough motors - BMW/Mini specialists in Boldon (North east England) He coded my car within a hour to give me access to the extended Bluetooth. If anyone is in my area I highly recommend these lads. Outstanding job and at a very low price. over the moon with the results.

Moving on to BMW. Very disappointed with the fact they charge for Bluetooth then extended Bluetooth, when extended Bluetooth is actually already there but just coded in a way its not accessible. Then when I asked the question whether it could be done they told me there is no chance as 'it needs to be done at production' redface

That's my little whine out the way haha

But thanks to Plough motors I had it done in a matter of minutes. Top stuff.

Highly recommend this mod if anyone has similar issues.

I bought a 66 reg 335d and it has all these internet things.

I don’t use anything bar RTTI which itself is average. I certainly wouldn’t pay much for it.
The map updates are slow, and to pay for them feels like a kick in the balls.

Then BT streaming and navigating music seems really hard.
Lots of menu faffing and messing about.

The Fiesta ST with sync was amazing in comparison and standard kit, used phone link for data and traffic on maps, routes is around big delays automatically.
Music off phone was amazing too.

The entire BMW system is just a bit crap in my view.
Too much menu digging/backing out/looking for settings.

I swear I turned off wing mirror dip on reverse in a menu, but since that day I can’t find it again... you’d think things were intuitive but they’re just not.

You don’t need connected drive for music streaming - just Bluetooth and it’s done.

Mine is a 10 reg so it works perfectly well on that 8 years forward it must be materially better?
