I bought one at launch and I don't regret it one bit, I just wish I had time to use it more. There's a decent number of games available now at good prices and some of them are brilliant. Dirt Rally, Resident Evil 7, Skyrim and Farpoint are all top quality titles and there are numerous excellent games and experiences from smaller developers. It certainly is the future but not for everyone at the moment, If you suffer badly from motion sickness it will put you off so you need to try before you buy ideally.
There are limitations with resolution and the peripheral a could be improved but it's so different from conventional gaming you can look past them. The next gen will really move it on but for the first accessible attempt at VR i think Sony have done a great job.

Yeah. Agree with that. I'm heavily into VR, I've owned all 3 versions of the Oculus Rift, a Vive and have next gen on order as well. I did own a PSVR for a while and for the price it's very impressive.
How much will you use it? Not something I can answer. My Vive gets regular outings the kids love various things and its great to show off to people. It's amazing for vr racing and the only way I race on PC these days. No game I've tried is as in depth as some non VR titles but each brings something different.

I bought one at the start of the year as a kind of belated christmas present to myself. I think it’s amazing, genuinely moves gaming on.
Yes, the resolution isn’t as good as a hd tv (never mind 4k), but when you’re driving round brands hatch, or the nürburgring in GT sport, you really don’t care.
What makes it though is having the wheel & pedals, without that, just using a controller is nowhere near as good.
Watching people reach out to touch things, or scare themselves in Resident Evil is good fun too! I’ve just begun Skyrim (again), but walking ‘in’ the world is so much fun - it’s a whole new way to play.
Since getting it, my xbox has seen miminal use, as I’m spending all of my gaming time in VR. It’s even good fun watching video on youtube (blue angels - u.s. navy red arrows equivalent videos show their skill at formation flying in a way the flat screen of a tv can’t).
In summary, I think it’s well worth it, I believe it to be the future of gaming.

They did update the breakout box with a HDR hdmi pass through, think that's been out for a while now. It is quite annoying having to swap the cables around on the original version. I've not heard of any other significant updates on the horizon though. Edited by paul99 on Monday 19th March 10:38
I bought one and had a play a few times before selling it. It was just too clunky for me to want to stick on on a regular basis.
You can feel the future potential oozing out of it, but this iteration wasn't a keeper for me. If you buy one at Cex even if you hated it you wouldn't lose more than £50 selling it on so it's worth a try.
The future will be amazing no doubt. Stuff like Dirt Rally is still jarring when it deposits you in the cockpit. But I'm happy to wait for a slicker incarnation.

I have one and think it's an amazing bit of kit, i had my reservations at first but am really glad i bought one.
Everyone i've given a shot of it too has been amazed so i don't think you'd be disappointed.
Buy a second hand one off ebay and if you don't like it you can sell it on again. I doubt you will though.

Further to my earlier comments, we’ve got a few more games now;
Farpoint (with the gun) is fantastic. Much fun to be had walking around on the planet, shooting stuff.
Eagle Flight is the kids favourite - fly around a future Paris as an Eagle, a friends 10yr old daughter played it non-stop while we watched the Liverpool-Watford match! It makes me dizzy after about 10 minutes though...
Doom VFR is a similar control method to Skyrim, but while I can move around in Skyrim and it feels “natural” with the teleport method, it doesn’t in this - not sure why.
Resident Evil: Biohazard - this is still the best to watch other people play! Screams, jumping out of the seat to get away, it’s funny
Drive Club VR - not as graphically polished as the vr bit of GT sport, but just as much fun when using the playseat, wheels & pedals.
It’s definitely changing the way I play - going to take a good AAA title to get me back on a screen rather than in the headset (Far Cry 5 is pre-ordered).

A bit early, but we're thinking of getting our 11-year old one of these for Xmas. Any recommendations for games? He likes Plants vs Zombies, Fortnite (obviously!), Minecraft, Star Wars Battlefront.
Also, can you play any game with the VR thing on or only VR games?
I get really bad motion sickness (I can get it from watching son play Minecraft!) so I'm guessing Skyrim on this would be a bad idea?

You can play any game with the headset on, but it's just like sitting in front of a 100" low res screen so no point.
If you are already susceptible to motion sickness, I'm guessing this will knock you for 6 !
Starwars Battlefront already has a VR X wing fighter mission built in (lasts about 15 mins and really gets your motion sickness going !)

You can use the headset for any game, you can scale the screen so it can be like your sitting in front of a huge screen, the resolution isn't so good so wont look as good as on a hd tv though but its playable.Also, can you play any game with the VR thing on or only VR games?

You will probably struggle if your prone to motion sickness, the games do usually have 'comfort' modes which try to reduce it and games that do not have motion mechanics are fine, it will improve over time if you persevere.
Games wise there's a pretty decent catalogue out now, lots of variety and good value games, Wipeout recently got a full VR update and its brilliant, probably the VR game on the system now. I also recommend Superhot, Farpoint, Rez infinite, Moss and Dirt Rally.
I bought one at Christmas and don't use it as much as I'd like but when I do it's great. Even my wife plays games on it and she can't be doing with video games. The only downside is the poor hand tracking via the move controllers or the aim controller (farpoint gun). The move controllers were never designed as VR controllers and it shows. It's not bad, but it can be a bit frustrating.
The other thing I like about the PSVR is that it acts as another screen to watch things on or play non-VR games on. Our PS4 is in the living room and sometimes on a Sunday afternoon I might want to play Deus-Ex or GTA V, but I can't as it isn't really appropriate for my 9 and 6 year old to be around. I can pop the headset on, plug in headphones and lie back on the sofa playing on the PS4 (until they moan at me they want to play a VR game).
One other downside and that is that you can't drink out of a glass when wearing one. Fine when gaming, but sometimes I watch films in cinematic mode and it's annoying not to be able to have a beer without drinking it through a straw
