Yes, I know, another what car thread. Not for me, for a friend who has asked for opinions so I thought I'd ask the collective.

Currently has a 2012 2.0 Tdi Insignia, and does ~80miles a day commute on motorways (~40 each way).

Wants to replace the Insignia with somewhere that's nicer to sit, and is interesting/has a fun factor/isn't a tractor engined rep mobile.

Do to modern houses being speced with 0.6 of a car parking space, only has room to store one car, so the rep mobile and fun car two car garage is a no go.

So requirements:

10k budget,
<60k miles ideally (to leave maintenance room since miles will be piled on),
Nice/characterful engine, (So petrol V8 etc),
and a Nice place to sit/cockpit etc.

I was thinking around the big merc level, such as this S550 : https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

or staying Germanic, something like this S8: https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

I was trying to think what the Jap offerings are in that sector, what are Lexus's like on the inside? Such as the GS? https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Any suggestions?

Another vote for CLS500. Very solid, very comfy, quick enough and if you find a good independent not expensive to run.
