Looking for one on the distributor of my series one 350i (flapper) and don't see one.

Is it possible I don't have one, or may be located elsewhere ?

Thanks

Remote ones are pretty easy to do.

I would trace the wires back from the coil.

Unless someone has undertaken some major mods biggrin

I dont know my Wedges very well, but that's very different to what you see on 14CUX cars confused

TBH after speaking with Gav (Solitude) on the blower yesterday and listening to him explain the misfire he's suffering that apparently came on suddenly after he gave his Wedge a good spanking..... my advice would be to start at the beginning.

And that means a simple visual of everything ignition and what I like to call a 'wiggle check', especially of the HT leads! It's very common for an HT lead to pop off the plug especially after a good thrapping, and a lose or disconnected HT lead will for sure give you misfires a plenty.

Let me know if you want me top pop over and take a squint at it Gav, we can always make time for a cheeky one after she's back on all 8 beer

I believe they were fitted to the very early wedges together with the 35DM8 distributor, also fitted to the Rover SD1 up until early '84. Most 350 Wedges and most 390SE's (including mine) were fitted with the 4CU ECU and flapper AFM.

People should also be aware the more common amp shown below comes in two and three spade connector flavors.

Irrespective on the connector type these Lucas ignition amps are not the most durable things, they really dont like heat or vibration. Be sure to use the sachet of white heat insulating compound when installing your new one or early failure is likely.

At some point in the early 1990's Land Rover decided to move the mounting position of the amp from the side of the distributor to the plenum, one can only assume this was to resolve the heat and vibration related failures the amps are known for?

I'd need to pop over and check, but I'd be surprised if Gavin (Solitude) doesn't have the later and more common amp shown in my photo above.

Your perfectly correct about the more common amp that you have shown above being unreliable. I assumed that Gavin(Solitude) didn't have the more common one as he said he couldn't find it but of course I may have assumed wrongly.

It's a 4 pin GM HEI module. I have 2 spares but they are available on eBay. It's mounted inside that box in the picture in the first reply. Use heat sink paste between it and the inner surface
