Just for a change I thought I would put my Speedmaster on a black leather strap.

A quick search on ebay (maybe not the best place, but still...) reveals I can pay anything between £0.99 and £229.99 for such an item.

Both extremes seem ridiculous to me but it begs the question, how much do I need to pay for a decent quality strap, and where should I go for it?

Any recommendations gratefully received.

Try WatchGecko.com - Bought a couple of these guys (Tag Aquaracer rubber and a Panerai Brown Leather) and very good quality - About £25 to £30...

I've had a nice Hirsch Rally strap from WatchObsession in the past, which lasted me a good couple of years.

After wearing the speedy on the bracelet for a year, i've just picked up another leather strap - a blue mock-alligator strap from Timpsons of all places, for £20. It's quite lovely.

The timpson's strap:

Watch Gecko, for some decent stuff or WatchBandCenter, where you can just pick your brand name and price point.

I got a lovely brown croc leather strap at a watch lab near me for £30, worth it completely.

Otherwise online I have bought from Watchgecko, Watchobsession, Monkeyswag and Haveston

All have been very good, except I would say the perlon strap I bought from watch obsession wasn't that great compared to other straps at a similar cost (£10)

A nice touch I would say is Watchgecko also send you a cleaning cloth with every purchase.

Cousins sell a good range of straps. Even the cheapest ones are OK

Leather is not an expensive material. Anyone charging more than £20 for a piece not even big enough to cover a cow's eyelashes is having a laugh.

Thanks for the advice. Watch Gecko have what I want at £12 which seems reasonable.

Many thanks

Yes they do look nice but much more than I wanted to pay, such a cheapskate!

Many thanks

I'll also vote for Watchband centre. I've had a couple of leather straps from the (the ones I picked were, I think, called Panerai-style). They are really thick and great quality and as above, £25-ish. Definitely recommended.

My favourite is Strap Works, makes them all to spec for you. This is one I have from him on a Panerai, it's great;
