Bit of a random question but having just booked a virgin train first class seat i noticed this in the breakfast menu.

Cereal (v)

Special K, Crunchy Nut cornflakes (Not available on London to Birmingham services)
When travelling between Wolverhampton-Birmingham-London, cereal is only available before departure in First Class lounges.

What is Birminghams issue with cereal? confused

Anyone know why this strange rule is in place?

so called

Don't know but it sounds like a First (Class) world problem.

Perhaps the rails are a bit uneven and you might spill the milk. smile

It's either because there is limited time and space or because virgin are tts.

Maybe both.

Just to derail your thread slightly.... (sorry getmecoat)

I've just this minute booked a single ticket for the 15:59 Leeds to Harrogate train. It's not far - 15 miles or so? I'm not right used to this pubic transport lark, and maybe I'm out of touch - but £8.30. For a single.

Eight pounds thirty for a short train ride! I'm horrified - this is how our lords and masters expect the plebs to travel in future. I thought it would be about two quid.

Why don't you get a taxi?

I thought that as well but they serve drinks, coffee, etc so you would imagine they would be at just as much risk of spilling. I've never known a bumpy railtrack to that extent.

I wouldn't go for the cereal so i suppose it's a non issue but i now feel the need to know the reason why.

I live 3 miles out of Manchester city centre, when I first moved it was cheap to get the train in have a wander round, grab food and a pint.

Now its cheaper to drive in and pay to park than get the train... Crazy

If there was more than two of us it would be cheaper.

Surely not? I paid £10 to park in Manchester City Centre for 3 hours on Sunday! Absolutely robbed.

On the longer journeys they serve cereal as a "starter" on a separate trolley run. They won't have time to do that so they will be trying to avoid moaning.

The prices are all over the place. I regularly take the train between Euston and Shrewsbury. Buy in advance and it's about £35 quid to London and £20 back. Buy on the day of travel and its three times higher. Last week I wanted to come back on an earlier train to dodge the snow; £80 quid to go Euston to Birmingham on Virgin, or £18 for the same journey on London NorthWestern (?) taking half an hour longer. Very easy to pay through the nose, but if you can buy in advance or burn 1/2 an hour, then it's pretty good value.

It’s worse than that, it’ll probably be a Pacer so a slow, noisy, rattling journey for your eight quid. Only 10p extra for the return though!

I’ve got to go to London every week with work, get the 7:00 train there, 16:00 train home, £338! That’s not even first class!

Watford to Preston 6am in the morning was £250 for a single. Was first class though.
