I was presented with a driving experience voucher and would like to use the venue in aldershot
has anyone done it before and hows the experience of driving a supercar?
After expressing my surprise, and complete ignorance that anyone wouldhas anyone done it before and hows the experience of driving a supercar?
contemplate wearing “special” shoes just to drive in, and getting
mildly castigated for saying so, I’d better stand well back from this one.
I've not been to Aldershot but went to Enstone a few years ago with Mrs Torque. We had a pick of 4 out of 6 or 7 very well used (and very tatty) super cars and drove the Aston, Ferrari, A8 and can't remember what else. The track was about 1/3 mile, like (but not quite) a figure of 8. So we'd take off up the straight and get in to third gear then were not permitted to use 2nd or 4th, even on the hairpin bend and did our two or three laps with no gear changes. Overtaking was banned as well. It was boring, a complete waste of time (90 minutes drive each way there and back) and would have been a waste of money except that the vouchers were a Christmas present. I had a 7 year old M3 at the time and the drive there and back was much more fun. Our sons had much the same experience with a super car experience in Staffordshire the year before. Sorry to piss on your bonfire but don't expect too much.
Went to Bicester with my Christmas gift voucher last year for American Muscle car Experience.
Chose a ‘72 Corvette, ‘69 Camaro and a ‘15 Bumblebee Camaro.
The Corvette was ropey, wouldn’t rev past 3500rpm, just as it was getting going it died, the Camaro had a shot torque converter and horrendous brake pedal. I wanted to hate the Bumblebee but it was brilliant, could have driven anywhere in it...except I don’t think my licence would last long.
Overall it was disappointing, the track is quite small, one of the instructors was very condescending explaining that the Camaro had a special race shifter that needed his help. He soon backed down when I told him it was the same as the one in my hot rod which incidentally was a lot quicker than the Camaro!

Had a go at this at Blyton in Lincolnshire. It was the day following a whole day on a Car Limits course run by Andy Walsh, at the time when he was expanding from driving days to offer supercar days. As we were staying locally and he was running the supercar day the following day, it would have been rude not to pop along.
I had a go in a Ferrari F430 and a Lamborghini Gallardo.
They also had a 911 Turbo, Audi R8, Aston Vantage, Jag XKR.
The guys going out with us had been the instructors for the previous day's circuit training.
There was no hint of limiting the revs or what gears to use, in fact the guy who I went out with in the Gallardo was positively encouraging me to go quite a bit faster and brake later than I would have if left to my own devices.
I think that their experience days are somewhat unique in that you do get to use the cars properly instead of just pootling around in 3rd with limited revs and speed the whole time.
Oh, to top it off, they also had a single seat hovercraft in the nearby field, which was a right laugh too!

I did one at Thruxton for my 18th. At the time I loved it. But thinking about it now, it wasn't that great. Yes I got to drive some nice cars, but it was all limited and hardly any time.
However, a few years later I did a 4x4 day. It was a full day, 1 to 1 with the instructor. It was fantastic. I loved it. I'd highly recommend that over the super car one.
