Whats more economical ?
Discussion
A VW Golf diesel will be more economical than both on fuel and servicing too...particularly the savings made on spark plugs.
I used to get about 25mpg ish out of my 968 manual..down to sub 10 mpg on track...on the basis that I have driven the 968 Tip and it seem to confuse itself on occasion I would not expect it yo be more economical.
I happily handed the auto back to it's owner after 20 mins so never really got to see mpg figs.
I would hope that buying a Porsche is partly a decision with the heart...MPG is not really the best deciding factor to when considering a Porsche. I hope you enjoy driving your new car.

Economy isn't really an issue since the difference will be marginal and the extra ownership costs either way insignificant unless you intend to do starship milage.
There's a far greater difference int he driving experience though and I suggest you try both on a proper test drive.
If you prefer the 968 auto you may want to look at other cars since it isn't the best auto ever built.
In any case the 3.0 engine has plenty of torque and there isn't much need to shift gears unless you really want to make progress.

I agree , I get 50+ mpg from my golf and its got 150bhp!! Quick in-gear acceleration too!
But I still prefer to drive the 993 where I'm lucky to get 25mpg.
