Sorry to hear about your bike - if the thieves are willing to write off the frame to steal parts there's basically no point in even locking it up! I had my bike stolen in Peterborough last September and I'm almost certain it would have been sold off in parts rather than as a complete bike!I quoted your last sentence though because I think this is the main reason very little is being done to tackle what is a massive problem right now! Like yours, mine wasn't insured and so I too was/am out of pocket - yet if more bikes were insured I'm pretty sure much more would be done! With corporate money being the driving force of the Western economy, if it's not hurting them, it's not going to get any real attention...
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Don’t think thieves are bothered with frames as they have serial numbers that are traceable. The parts don’t and are easily sold on.
Feel s
t now. There is no point in having nice things in this country any more. I know the police will do FA under funded and over stretched. Two years of saving up and it’s gone in minutes.

It’s rare but people do occasionally find their stuff for sale. Do you have a serial number for the fork?
Already posted. Picture of bike when new but now imagine it cut in half and thats what it will look like.

Feel your pain mate. I had two bikes stolen from my shed last year, insurance refused to pay out as they weren't individually declared on the policy (I had assumed that bikes in general were covered). It took me until November to finish paying for one of them!
I hope you get a lucky spot on eBay for one of the components, that's the best you can hope for tbh.

Trouble is bikes are worth way more in parts (and are also less traceable) than they are as a complete bike. It's a problem that's getting worse as well.
Scumbags
bike insurance seems a nightmare to actually claim on though- my brother in law had a Canondale CAAD8 stolen by cutting through the frame. It was chained to railings at the front of a police station. both his locks were still locked to the railings.
They had CCTV but all that achieved was proving that it had been there slightly longer than 12 hours (he went for a beer after work) and as a result the bike wasn't insured!

Its not that they won't do FA, its more the fact they usually can't. At most ,all they can do is check CCTV, assuming there is any. If it doesn't show the person taking it then theres not much more can be done. Even if it does show someone taking it, they still need to try and identify that person, which could be impossible. And thats assuming the image quality is such that they get a good facial shot. If its a distant camera thats not zoomed in on your bike then theres not much hope. So the odds are stacked against them solving it, but not for the want of trying.LeadFarmer said:

There was a cctv camera looking directly at the spot my bike was chained up to. The opperator on the 101 phone line shared my view that not much would be done. Not by the lack of wanting, but how do you go to 10 crimes when tou have 7 officers. Its not possible so the 'low level' crime doesn't get seen to. The fact im now 4k out of pocket means nothing to anyone except me. Theft is a personal crime so hurts that bit more.
P.s second bike to be taken in 10 years.
I've basically insured my bikes for theft from my garage and damage on the road.
I'm never locking a decent bike up outside ever again, you may as well not bother and give it away these days!
For the odd occasion I do want to ride somewhere and lock a bike up I've sorted myself what is essentially a pub-bike - just a s
tty old cheapo Raleigh MTB. I've still got myself a decent cable and a couple of strong D-locks though - I'll be f
ked if I'm giving the b
ds an easy ride again! (Pun Intended)
