All,

Bit of a quandary however the accusations levelled are a little fishy……scenario as follows:

Uber back from central London last Thursday night. Had a doze in the back and woke up just before home and just before the driver took a route that would have taken me back in the wrong direction. He stopped 50 metres down the road for quite some time which I though was strange.

Got home, gave star rating (good, but then I’d had a few light ales). I look later on and realise the driver has taken me a good way out of most direct route with some double backs so I’ve been charged an unfair fee (about £20 over). I’ve left It as I wasn’t fully awake for the whole journey and I’ve had some pretty cheap rides in the past.

Anyhow, fast forward to this morning and I have been charged £110 for making a mess in the car (allegedly). I woke up before he dropped me off, there was no mess be it food or otherwise in the car. There is no mess on my suit, shoes or jacket and I can happily state that I was not sick during that journey. I remember getting in and out of the cab and getting home and eating. Further on our CCTV there is no sign of me walking in with any stains or mess on me. Also, why has it taken until Monday morning for this claim to be made? He’s had 4 days!

The best this driver/Uber can produce is a close up picture of a small part of a seat from what could be any car with a speckles of what looks like porridge.

I have refuted this and now made counter claim for fraud by the driver both in his actions, route picked and also Uber’s blind acceptance through a non-descript photo that there was mess in the car.

Has anyone else experienced this to have any advice for how I proceed as Uber have quite readily taken £158 for a, at most £34 cab ride?

TIA

CS

Uber are scumbags - not surprised to be honest. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more.

The drivers will do whatever they can to con you, especially if they know you're hazy from drinking too many ales.

Had a few journeys where the guy has been friendly and effective, but a couple where they pretend they can't find you and 'cancel' your job via their uber app - and they call their mate down the road, who then gets your ride job, only they can now apply 'surge charge' which multiplies your 10 quid journey to more like 30.

Go on their website and lodge a complaint. Sorry I can't be of more help, but these guys do regularly take the p!ss... Good luck.

that's when they aren't "allegedly" sexually assaulting women. Actually i'm not sure it is allegedly. As it's known. Loads of women have been assaulted.

Seriously don't know why anyone uses them.

totally hideous.

Presumably the Uber driver is based in London, so I would lodge a complaint with TFL and let Uber know this. They are currently trying to get their revoked licence unrevoked. They won't want any bad publicity at the moment.

I would also close my account if I had one and vote with my feet, so to speak.

Used Uber quite a few times both for work all over the world where available & personally generally in London.
Never had an issue, one journey from Heathrow where I'd have taken a different route but they apparently have to drive the route they are given on the app.
Another who rolled up 50 yards from me & on a different road & then claimed a "failed to meet fee". I complained to Uber & was immediately refunded.
Called up another & they were there in a few minutes.

If you think they are bad try some of the cowboys in some countries. 115 Euro a few weeks ago in Paris with some fake cab co. Should have been 30 Euro top.

There are Hackney drivers and there are bad Uber drivers... Good thing about Uber is that it's all logged pretty effectively.

When abroad I find them invaluable, we needed a cab in Prague and tried the local yellow cabs, they'd invariably either refuse the job because they didn't deem it far enough (would rather keep chatting with their mates at the rank) or they'd insist on a fixed fee with no meter (Uber eventually charged a quarter of what they asked us for)

As for OP's problem, raise a complaint via the app, they're generally pretty quick to respond but the response is usually a form response. They will not read your complaint fully. They'll get the gist of it and then send a standard reply. It took me about six e-mails to get them to refund an overcharge from a deliberately long route.

In the end I was asking them yes/no questions such as "Please confirm that as per your previous reply, you will not take action when drivers drive around in a circle to run up a fare and then lie about it". It was very hard for them to send a form response to that, and gradually I wore them down until I got my £1.80 back.

I'm nothing if not persistent smile

Can't comment on the mess part, but when my Uber driver took me far out of the way on the way home, I checked the route the next day and raised it as a complaint on the app, then was instantly credited back with about 1/4 of the fare which is probably what was overcharged

Never had a problem with Uber

Issue a small claim against Uber for the return of the money. Get their address for service of legal documents and send them a letter before action. I wouldn't;t hesitate to issue against anyone who pisses me off as I'm used to be a solicitor and also have a lot of time on my hands.

Last time I issued against Vodafone for £4 for them incorrectly adding a data bundle which couldn't be used in Europe whilst I was in Europe and specifically requested a European data bundle. I also added on a sum of £200 for loss of enjoyment of my holiday plus interest. They settled all heads of my claim prior to having to file a Defence.

Wow all the Uber hate an I bet most of you have not used them.

Point one, your trip is recorded on GPS so you, your driver and Uber have a copy. Talk to Uber and ask why it is different to the original one posted (when your made request). I have done this and we good full refund, but note driver just got lost).

Once you have proved the above its start to add weight to your second claim.

I have only had to contact Uber two times about there drivers and both got full refund.

Overall like the said the trips are GPS tracked so why a call BS on some of the previous posts.

And if this doesn't work contact TFL their licensing authority, simple as that.

When in holiday in orlando I suggested we used uber but the wife got a normal 'taxi' - a badly painted white chrysler which felt like a death trap.

On the way back we used uber, and have used it repeatedly since, even back home we've swapped.

last trip in Orlando was a guy who didnt speak much english, freaked the wife out a little bit when he was explaining we should keep an eye out on the kids. He ended up returning to our pick up point and i got charged for a double trip, quick email to uber and we had a refund.

Not a massive taxi user, but was great on holiday and the drivers where a damn site better than the official taxis

So you've has a driver get lost, you've twice had to complain to Uber, but they're above criticism for some reason? scratchchin

As against for me had various issues with lots of private hire & back cabs, get lost, rip me off. That is three problems he has against how many journeys?
