H all,
Is it possible to adjust the clutch cable, on a 2000 Tuscan?
I seem to need to press right down and only just get it into gear, makes gear changes a bit clumsy.
I expect it is going to get expensive shortly.

Cheers Windswept.

Hi Windswept,
There is no clutch cable it is hydraulic, check you have plenty of fluid in the reservoir ( behind the clutch/brake pedal inside) Otherwise it may only need bleeding or possibly clutch worn out.ie;knackered!

Possibly the slave cylinder has failed, not un-common check hydraulic fluid level & underside of car for hydraulic oil leakage.

Thanks guys,
Just checked, the resovoir is fullish, the clutch pedal is really heavy to operate, could the cylinder be tight?

The slave cylinder can also wear causing this sort of problem, had this with mine & when removed there was quiet a 'step' on it although the seal was still ok & no fluid leakage.

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it sounds to me like the "fingers" have broken...as you know there is no adjustment and you have already checked your fluids...I took my 2001 Tuscan in on Wednesday (Well, the road assistance track did) and I had similar symptoms to you...getting worse within the space of a week...it is possible that you get away without changing tha slave cylinder, but it would be advisable to change the whole clutch set -though highly unlikey, my cylinder went and sucked all the oil seals with it-. On top of it all, it damaged my flywheel...13,000 miles.

You are looking at about £1300 for the clutch, all inclusive...flywheel cost about £300...oh, and set of new indicators (clear lens) £280, the old one accumulated water and...rusted....that's just after the £1200 service, a £300 tuning and some other bits and bobs in 2005!...the car thinks I am made of money....

Had mine done by Racing Green last week (had about 500 yards notice before no clutch)....prices are about the same for the Cerbera noted above.

Needed a new flywheel too, but got a reconditioned fitted by RG, much better value. As always, can't recommend them enough.

Thanks guys,
Saving started.
I do have a brand new boxed set of 18" spider alloys for the Tuscan, any offers gratefully appreciated.

sorry windswept just spotted this thread.
It is possible to adjust the clutch via the pedal box. This can be done to both adjust the throw of the pedal so you don't have to push so far down and you can also adjust the strength or leverage making the pedal a softer or harder feel depending on preference.
If you want full details I will take some pictures and provide instructions just let me know.

Thanks Bigphil,
I have managed to get some more stroke on the clutch pedal and that has helped a bit, how do you adjust the pressure?

Cheers

you need to change the position of the pedal linkage, can't remember which way at the moment but will check on the car tommorow and post the details.
