So after completing my 2nd annual service on the DB9 and replacing the o/s/r lower arm due to it splitting and also the front discs and pads I took it for a spin tonight and it's all together better, even before I get it aligned.

I even almost completely removed the idle speed whine from the oil pick up

On my return trip feeling pleased with the work, my n/s dipped beam failed!

Has anyone replace a dipped beam bulb yet? Hoping it's not the ballast? Any recommendations for upgrades?

Thanks

John

I recently had an error message stating dipped bulb failure, so I went online and bought a couple of philips bulbs.

I swapped over both at the same time to ensure consistent light from both sides.

I ended up purchasing this type: Philips D1S 4300K 35w 85410 xenon headlights bulbs and they seem to work ok.

I was glad it wasn't the ballast.........

I already had the wheels and liners off, so quite an easy change.

I think you can probably do it by turning the wheels and accessing the hatch in the liners.

A box held in by 2 turn screws cover the actual bulbs.

I disconnected the battery whilst I was doing it. Connection is similar to a USB.

Finally, the lights didn't light up first time on using the light switch. Fired up on second attempt. Assume it takes the system a few moments to calibrate and realise new lights have been fitted.

Hope that helps

That's great thanks

The access is ok as I recently added gel crystals to stop the condensation (so far perfect) so know I can access fine.

Those bulbs seem OK, let's hope that's all it is

So, I replaced the bulb a while back and sadly it was the ballast, so I bought a used ballast and it was fine, until a few weeks ago.

Is there anything that can cause the ballast to fail in particular?

Thanks

I know what you mean, every used ballast ive ever bought runs for a bit thens packs up, think its a philips unit common to a few different cars, by the way How did you improve your oil pick up noise?

Interesting thnaks, I have a new (but aftermarket) ballast to fit tomorrow.... Will let you know how I get on.

As for the oil, just chnaging the oil to the right specification improved it.

I may be wrong, but I am sure I was told the noise was a capiliiary issue designed into either the front cover or the oil pick up, no not much can be done unless its re manufactured., I am happy to be told I am wrong though

The after market ballast and wiring kit works brilliantly, 36 quid and better wiring the stock, just the right length instead of just too short!

Well impressed I'll be using it again if the other side goes.

I can post a link if anyone is interested
