I hear that Joolz is going to be concentrating on tuning and so forth rather than servicing.

Sadly you may be right.
Luckily my car has just had a 48k done by him last week. No scary phone calls so I assume it sailed through.

So its true then Julian?
Rolling road, TVR tuning and also other makes?
good luck with it, you have kept many Cerbrea owners happy for a long time now.......
I guess with the S6 engine now the only choice then you needed to consider your business plan!

Well after 13 years of tvr servicing there's so few new things to see .. and the one's i am seeing aren't floating my boat so to speak. When you've changed one diff bush you've pretty much seen them all ..changed one clutch and you've pretty much seen them all too .. etc etc. I'm happy when I'm developing stuff no-one else is selling.

the cerbera engine stuff is the exciting thing for me at the moment. .. but unfortunately (for instance) every man and his dog are selling Nitron dampers these days so that's not the niche market it once was when Peninsula were doing all the RV8 cars and i was doing the Cerbera chassised cars.

When the rollers are installed it'll allow me to produce some cost effective RV8 mods too .. I'm going to continue the next business to the same rules as this one .. that is to only sell stuff that works at least as good if not better than the std tvr offering, is better value, or a combination of both if possible.

Servicing and fault fixing has allowed me to build Joospeed to a well known name in TVR circles, but as I'm only one person I need more than that to keep me going .. I get bored easily and it's not like there aren't enough tvr service centres these days dotted all around the country. 4 years ago when i first started you could count them on the fingers of two hands .. now there must be 40 odd indies to choose from and 95% of customers give you a budget to work to anyway - it's just not where I want to be now.

Soooo .. new future is still heavily tvr influenced .. but I really want to get involved with tuning / track / race cars far more than I've allowed myself in the past.. it's where my heart is and what i really set up in business for in the first place .. the servicing took over and i never reined it in. Well now's the time

Well good luck with it Joolz. At least you know that you have a decent reputation in Cerbera work to help get the new venture off the ground.

OT, looks like I'll be back home on Monday night so I'll be down first thing on Tuesday morning to get her. How early are you opening up these days? Sorry it's took so long to get the car out your way.

sorry .. i got in trouble with Ted last time i picked one name from several as a recommendation .. inferring the others were just slightly less than brilliant ..

so that'll be Horizon then as my choice.

Joolz, I wish you well in your new venture. You certainly will succeed. Last year at Aintree, my cerbera went through the timing beam at only 107 mph. This year after you tuned the car, it managed 134 mph at the same point on two runs, even though I was driving less hard than last year. The credit for this improvement is all down to you!

The next Aintree sprint is 25 june. This is also used as a round of the TVRCC speed championship. You will find both the TVR competitors and Liverpool Motor Club competitors very friendly in my experience. The track at Aintree has a superb surface too. I'm sure you (and any other PHer)would enjoy a visit to Aintree which was the home of the British GP at one time!

Best of luck, Joo - really glad you're finally getting to focus on the interesting stuff... you've sure earned it!

As ever, if you fancy playing with tuning the AJ8 V8 in the XKR (or sorting the handling out), you're more than welcome to have a fiddle before I drive to the other end of the country to let Racing Green empty my wallet.

Imagine there's a fair old market there in getting more from the supercharger, sorting out the semi-auto options on the gearbox, de-restricting it, sorting the breathing out, general re-mapping, playing with the CATS suspension system (as well as just lowering/stiffening it), etc.

(And fixing it)

Best wishes Joo, you have been deified on PH, and you're one in a million. Looks like you'll have plenty of tweaking to keep you busy...

Hi Joo.

Sorry we didn't have time to finish our conversation when I called round last week. Must admit, I was gobsmacked at the news. Having said that, I know you was getting rather bored with the servicing side etc, and that developement/tuning is what you wanted really to do. Perhaps an idea would be to give the servicing side to Vicki. Lol

Thanks for looking after my cerbera over the last two and a bit years. I suppose I've been lucky in that I only live a couple of miles away, and you was always there when I had problems. Obviously that 'piece of mind' has now gone, and travelling further a field is now needed. Where I dont know. Thats my problem not yours.

Anyway, hope your new venture works out for you Joolz, and thanks again

He tried this 6/12months ago. The thing is, Joolz is a perfectionist. If he works on a car, you know when you pick it up, its done right. If theres a problem, he'll always put it right. Thats why he gets the custom from all over the UK. If he lets another mechanic do the servicing side, then its his reputation if things go wrong, and it costs him twice as much to correct it.

I certainly agree with what you're saying, but then I also understand what Joolz is saying. If I do something, whether its DIY or what, i'll do it myself, cause I know it'll be done right.

The best of luck Joo in your new venture, it's a brave decision but one I understand completely.

When you get the rollers I reckon developments for the Cerbie and RV8 will soon be making waves in the TVR world. It'll be good for owners to have more choice on the tuning front and as you say there are loads of indies servicing TVR's these days so specialising in your main area of interest makes good sense.

I know where you're coming from, but if i was looking to get my car modded/upgraded the first garage i would ask to do the work is the one doing the servicing, as they should know the car better than anybody else Plus they would be looking for me to continue getting the car serviced at their place so i should be able to trust they have done a decent job and not fobbed me of (no offence meant here Joolz)
