Hi everyone,

I'm looking at getting a disc wheel however I've also been toying with the idea of a second hand one.

Is this a bit risky from a structural point of view since I don't know what has happened to the wheel in its life? Is there anything in particular to look for?

Thanks in advance to anyone replying - the time is appreciated.

Kind regards,

M

Most of them are rarely used to be honest so haven't had much wear - what sort of disc are you looking for? Worth keeping an eye on the timetriallingforum amongst the usual places. Budget?

Check carefully for cracks when you first get it. Have you thought about a cover? As usual with Aero stuff not much independent testing but the fine people of Slowtwitch are convinced they work just as well and cost little

Not being a smartarse but, if you can, look at the size of the person who owned it before you. If he/she looks on the big side then, depending on other factors, walk away. The reason being is that these wheels arent really made to take long term year on year weight on one end and road punishment on the other.

Try and get one new but SH , lots of people upgrade straight away so have the wheels their bike came with

Or only spend what you can afford to write off

Ive bought and sold wheels for years, got a couple of bargains but also paid £40 for a pair of wheels that were fcked. Luck of the drawer

Bear in mind some people wont be ripping you off, they might not realise how worn/broken their wheels are!
