Hello, I exchanged on a property Nov 2017 using a buy to let mortgage and a 50% deposit - the property is actually for my parents who are getting on in life and live two hours away. I secured the property for them and they will pay off the mortage and my deposit once they have completed on the sale of their home. The process did incur 3% stamp duty but we went with it as the property suited my parents needs and is within a couple of minutes of immediate family. is it possible for me/us to apply for a refund on our stamp duty as this will be my parents main residence once. They plan to move in a couple of weeks time and hope to complete on the sale of their home shortly after that?

Forget who paid for it, who owns it?

As you've bought it, you need to sell it to your parents, once its sold you can apply for a stamp duty refund
