1K where to go on holiday?
Discussion
Life has been giving me stick recently and a thought struck me while I was out surfing this morning. I should sod it and foxtrot oscar abroad for a while.
I'm going to give myself a grand, I don't mind living out of bins and sleeping rough.
As I'm going by myself, places like East Russia are a bit beyond me. Basically a destination, not a package.
Fire away folks.

south of Portugal. Algarve, sun, sea, sand, fresh fish, cheap wine, best olive oil on the planet (my Aunt harvests it from her orchard), friendly people, history, (golf, if you are into that ;-) ) English radio (strangely) Lisbon for the surf (Sintra) and cafes/castle, Estoril for the GP..............
Good stuff chaps/esses.
I was curious about New Zealand as I can sofa surf over there, on the other hand I quite like the idea of investigating American hillbilly culture. A bit of the "Gee, Sir, you sound just like James Bond"
not really bothered about giving my biology a workout though. Not sure how good I would fare in Portugal but Ericeira has some good surf.
Any other bright ideas?

Surfing spots for a grand eh
central America -
Mexico - fantastic and cheap lots of waves
Guatemala - lots less crowded much much cheaper gets nothern swells very basic in places though.
El Salvador (La libertad) great fun can be a bit hairy sometimes crowded.
Nicaragua - Not tried this but heard good things
Costa Rica - more expensive but a lot more civilised East Coast can be great as well as pacific
Panama - some good reports some bad
If going now you will miss the worst of the summer weather.
Hire a car (El Camino Señor?
)or bus it if brave.
Or come to Bali where I will be for most of August Though the winds are a bit variable at the moment, lot less crowds and you will get some good days.
