Can anyone tell me about the Jaguar-Land Rover InConnect system?

I want to know how much data I would need from a data only sim, to use in the car. I imagine a lot of this would depend on what the data is used for in the car. Hypothetically, if I used my phone for all internet/data useage (maps, music etc). Do I need a data SIM at all? Does the car do it's updates automatically, or does it use the sims data to update?

Trying to understand if a data sim is even necessary, if I'm going to use my phone for everything...

The car uses the SIM for traffic updates, web browsing etc. If you check on the forums it's generally acknowledged that for traffic and minor browsing one GB/month is average.

This SIM gives you 24GB over two years, hitting the one GB/month nicely.

Map updates should be done via your PC or laptop as they are about 25GB & are transferred via USB.

Agree with the above - I put a 12 month/12gb in mine and just set the usage capacity to a gb a month. I use it for traffic and searching locations, news (the car reads it out to you), weather (show forecast for today/week for where you are and where the sat nav is set to) and it has never used more than 200mb in a month. I don't use it as a hot spot though.

Also set up an incontrol account and turn on 'Commutes' - then the car tells you the arrival time of your normal journeys so mine tells me what time I'll get to work/home/gym etc without setting the nav and you can quickly figure out whether there are problems on the road.
