Freelander 2 not going into gear
Discussion
Hi, I was wondering if anyone might know what the problem is with my 2007 Freelander 2 Automatic 2.2L
Over the last few weeks when driving the car first thing in the morning when the engine is cold it really struggles to get into 2nd gear, over revving before eventually getting into gear, you kind of have to nurse it. Then after say 5 minutes when the engine has warmed up a bit, all is good, it drives very nicely again with no issues. I now tend to leave it on the drive with the engine running for 10 mins before driving it, doing that it drives perfectly.
I took it to a local Landrover specialist who recommended flushing the gearbox this cost about £250! but the problem still persists. I was told that it has a problem with a solenoid. The recommendation was to replace the gearbox for a reconditioned one at a cost of £2500 !
Now I am no mechanic and have little to no knowledge of gearboxes, but surely there is something that can be done to fix this problem without having to replace the entire gearbox??? The car is probably only worth about £5k So to spend £2.5k on it is a tricky decision to have to make.
Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
