Based in the south of the island near the airport and of average road fitness.

Would I be ok?

Yes you'll be fine. There's some good climbs, I think the hire bikes come with 32 tooth cassettes so you can spin if required.

Climbing Tiede is a really good cycling challenge. It's not really all that hard it just fecking long!! It never really ramps up that much if you ride from Los Christianos through Viliflor. i think the average is about 5%.

Coming down is fun too!! smile

Watch out for the cloud base at this time of year, it gets really cold really quick in the clouds.

I had a bike from Bike Point based in Los Christianos. Great bike and service. Brakes the wrong way round though. Pesky euros!

Taking my Supersix. Think I need to buy a 11spd 32 cassette pronto as the current is 26?

Going for a sixth long weekend end of April, my knee is a little swollen at the moment so I am getting little concerned. All routes to Vilaflor are ok, some harder than others. The last 11km from Vilaflor to the crater have some steepest ramps when you have been climbing for 2hrs to Vilaflor. From LC there is a nice cafe after about 12km.

We did a 100m loop through the crater and back round the coast, I have hired Durace spec bikes in the past with 52/36 and 11/30.

Road from LC has been resurfaced apparently.

I can put my palm flat on the floor no problems! I had my saddle about 10mm high after taking it out, put it back down now. I think potentially ITB has affected patella tracking, doesn't help that I have partial ACL tear and complete rupture of MPFL.

Got ice on it now and foam roller! FTP is dropping like a stone from chest infection at beginning of Feb, weather has been shocking. Off to Majorca for family holiday in Easter no riding though (at the moment)!

How about front splits?

Those are the ones that sorted me. No not flat flat just each leg in turn - front splits

No as much as this as possible alternative legs. I'm like a bloody triangle but it works. I find doing it in the kitchen in socks leaning against kitchen unit helps. After a few days doing it it's alleviating

Wow the Tenerife local drivers are very respectful of cyclists in the mountains. Everyone slows right down and drives on the other side of the road as they pass. A few hire cars didn't but I'm going to stick my neck out and say 'British'.

I’m heading to Tenerife in early October for a couple of days and have a pass from he wife to head out one morning whilst she lazes by the pool. We’re staying in the same area as you near the airport so any general advice or recommendations for decent routes for a 4-5 hour ride near there would be much appreciated.

Cheers thumbup

Whereabouts? I'm in El Medano.

Do you prefer road, Mtb or equally both?

We’re staying in Arenas del Mar, so just up the road from El Medano. I’m looking at road only and was going to hire a bike from Bike Point in El Medano.

I'm an ok cyclist and normally do about 150km a week. I’ve also got a couple of gran fondos planned this summer so hopefully I should be fit enough for a decent ride!

Yes. I dragged my 100kg up El Teide on a hired bike with 50/34 11-28.

Road surface is shocking in places, worse descending.

I was passed by some riders from the then Cannondale Drapac team, gave me a thumbs up.

Replying just to add that I was in Tenerife in January and went for a guided ride (with a rental Ridley Fenix Ultegra) with Bike Point Tenerife, and it was excellent. They have a range of scheduled rides on different days of the week, or will do you a custom one if you fancy something different. Route, food, bike, all taken care of, they met me at my hotel with a couple of other riders, and we had mechanical (and water top-up) support along the way. I did a ride up the west coast to Los Gigantes and climbed to Santiago del Teide. Really recommended.

I am flying out next Friday morning and back then on the Tuesday evening. Based in Gold Del Sur if anyone is around. There are four of us staying in a mates villa.

May try a loop of the island again (well through the crater and back along the south coast), and a trip to Masca.

Good to hear. I’ve booked to do Teide with them in October.

It will be my first mountain ascent so I’m excited and nervous in equal measure.
