E46 engine breather

Hi . My 120,000m 320D compact has a little oil mist around the oil filler cap . I wonder if there is a breather that needs cleaning ? . Someone suggested there is one on right hand side (dipstick side) that should be cleaned .

On top of rocker cover - big piece of black plastic held in with I think 6 5mm hex bolts - breather is inside - should be the cotton reel type in it

I can't see why, it shows what is at fault and how to change it .

As for that job, taking off the plastic and vent stuff isn't that hard at all. It does add on time but even I can strip the bits of mine to access parts in around 30 mins now .

I'd get a new breather myself .
