I've never understood it - I think I'd mostly live as I already do since I live like it because I like it.
I'm sure I'd buy some things but I can already afford far more than what I buy but I don't feel tempted by much extra
It really depends on how you're living now, I think. If you're fairly well-off, then an extra £1m in the bank account when you're not living for payday will probably mean you upgrade your car, pay off the mortgage, buy a couple of investment properties, quit a job you hate and just enjoy the rest of your life, maybe starting a business. OTOH, if you're on minimum wage, living in social housing, young and never really got to experience nice things, then if £1m appears in your account, you're going to go mental.I'm sure I'd buy some things but I can already afford far more than what I buy but I don't feel tempted by much extra
It is a shame because there are people who would never amount to anything and struggle for their entire lives who could have been sorted for life and yet f

I suppose so. I'm not rich but I do fine! I'm not a big spender at all nowadays. I'm very happy in work and get a tremendous amount of satisfaction from it. As a result I know that I'd continue with it if I did win big - it would still be how I want to spend my weekdaysIt is a shame because there are people who would never amount to anything and struggle for their entire lives who could have been sorted for life and yet f
k it up.I definitely think that I would've wasted it all and possibly got myself killed if I'd won a million in my teens though, knowing how I was then! I really calmed down and changed a lot as I found what I wanted to do.
These bad investments must have been really, really bad. Would be interesting to know what sort of investments these people generally go for.
I mean there's just no need to go high risk. These people suddenly had more than they ever could have dreamed of. Why at that point would you take a high risk investment.

John Roberts, winnings: £3.1m
The champagne corks were flying when Edinburgh native John Roberts scored a $4 million (£3.1m) win on the UK National Lottery in 1998, but Roberts was back to drinking Cava in next to no time. The spendthrift Scot spent a fortune on supercars and dodgy investments, including a money-pit pub. By 2001, Roberts' winnings had disappeared and he ended up moving into a mobile home.
Win the lottery, buy your local, end up broke and living in a mobile home. That's the most Scottish thing that I have read in ages.

The chap at the bottom won £244 million but opted for an 87.5m payout in one go... How on earth do you manage to squander that much money. Cannot fathom it.
It's not just the money, it's the fact he did it in 5 years, like seriously what the actual f
k, blowing $113 million dollars to the point you have NOTHING to show for it after only 5 years, NOTHING, no houses, cars, boats, watches, paintings.....nothing.They should have done what the local lottery winner is doing here, win £1m, become a coke dealer, drive around in super cars, go on fancy holidays, buy a lavish house and avoid all suspicion because everyone is too stupid to realise £1m doesn't stretch THAT far!
