Unmarked scourge on M6 Toll
Discussion
What a great road the M6 toll. Never used it before this weekend. Pretty much deserted apart from 2 unmarked (who had pulled 2 of the VERY few drivers) and one marked who was laser gunning people as they accelerate out the toll booths. What a bunch of
losers. This must be the safest road in the country if not the world. What sort of indiviual does that for a living? Am really depressed that the police have become so petty, its pathetic. like theres no crime in birmingham. Rules are invented to serve man, not the other way round. Wankers.

the gov dictates which roads are 'made safe' ? i dont think so but stand to be corrected. its not like a deserted m6 toll is an accident blackspot is it ? no this is simply about nicking the easiest possible target for breaking an arbitrary rule. i mean why use unmarked? grrrrrrr

How do Durham get away without using speed cameras then ?
I understand it is because Chief Constables have a degree of freedom to form their own policy on this subject.
Paul Garvin, CC of the Durham Constabulary, and more recently Della Cannings, CC of North Yorkshire Police, have decided to tackle road safety in a more constructive manner, and all credit to them.
They alone have taken a courageous stance in the face of all the money grabbing nonsense being enacted elsewhere, and I wish them every success.
Best wishes all,
Dave.

Here is the myth popping up again. Durham and N.Yorks do use cameras. Why do you all insist they don't. Take the A66 for instance, there is a speed camera sign just yards from the Durham sign, then you arrive at the first Police Only bay accompanying the sign. Drive just a mile or 2 further and you arrive at the second sign and Police Only bay. Cross into N.Yorks exactly the same. They are using the same guidelines, carrying out the same tactics, just not subject to the rules that allows them to reclaim the costs. Why Durham even have "speed kills" posters splashed about their roads, good on em'.
There must be hundreds, nay thousands of calls for Traffic Policing to be increased and carry out their brand of speed enforcement, here here to that, yet when you get some you complain. What are you complaining about? They are enforcing a speed limit which many of you have openly quoted as being flouted by lots of drivers. It's only a matter of time before this location/road sees it's first major pile up, the Police are I would guess carrying out preventative measures before it gets out of hand. Well done to them.
Should they have failed to recognise this and an accident did occur they would of course be ridiculed for failing to take action on the intelligence received.
Catch-22 for the boys in blue.
I very much doubt they were told directly by anyone in government what to do. They are simply acting on many years of valuable traffic policing intelligence. It's what you have been asking for , it's what you've got, whats yer beef?

That's a poor argument in support of your angelic constabularies.
You must be able to do better than that.
Don't get me wrong, I don't disagree with Durham and N.Yorks using cameras the way they do, just find it odd they want to pay.
The key thing I want to get accross is that they seem to be carrying out the same tactics with the same guidance but popular belief is that they don't carry out speed enforcement with cameras, they do.

Ja .. Liebchen. But it ddoes not stop you attacking my cousin IG on Paulie's site.
He can have you for breakfast though
He has tougherst skin.... he ist used to dealing mit twazaks.
Und he gets lots of practice in dealing mit cheek.... usually from me

Ist not what you said to my cousin on Paulie's site. He told you quite bluntly as I recall that he would stick to his posters on A66 und you could keep your scams.
Und he does say that he uses some discretion in matter... only
he never says how much discretion he uses....but he says he ist "generous"
Und he likes driving fast himself.... but I managed to shock him once in Germany und he has never lived down wrecking that engine I lovingly restored once....
These BiB drivers - "wreck-on" they are so much better

Ist a road mit no accidents und discretion on safe road should be used. Ist being driven at 85th percentile. Ist no reason to deliberately seek to entrap.
Und you know all about safety on M6 being all the better for your talivan.... :rolleyes; Ist lot more dangerous und the increasing number of recent accidents there just about prove it for me und the mad Doc....
ist no use mounting highest horse mit mir .. has been in all our local papers when these happened...ist in on-line archives for all to check... destructive kevi/steviebabes said:

Und it stops accidents? It stops driver error? It tracks car mit dodgy brakes, bald tyres, under/over pressure tyres? Tired driver? Driver about to have heart attack? Nit wit who fails to use mirrors? fails to indicate? Hogs a lane?
Nein!
It raises cash.. pure und simple... Und if accident occures on this road ... will be down to above factors und these police would do better to do routine pulls for this instead of obeying their local Speedfinder Gerneral's orders.

Und if accident was down to defective vehicle or defective driver - which they failed to attend to in their zeal to collect cash from drivers of well maintained vehicles who drove a tadge above 70 mph .. then I would be first to hand, draw und quarter these people

Nein.. they will have been instructed. There ist no intelligence required for zapping people as they accelerate from toll booths per OP. Intelligent trafpols can tell instinctively from following car und so was...
Und ... IG ist not the only BiB in this family.... he has two brothers.... und we have two cousin BiBs abraod... one you met on Cumbrian forum... A German BiB und the other ist
Swiss gendarme....und they talks to us....

?????!!! reminds me of that insurance advert, "MOST PEOPLE"
we want policing not speed enforcement, are you a politician by any chance, you seem to miss the point like an exocet finds a battleship
I have to add, in a moment fuelled by an extraordinary quaffage of industrial strength drain cleaner, that I completed a pointless journey up and down the M1 in traffic travelling at a 'comfortable' 100mph, no one died, I realise that if anyone did do something stupid it might cause more airbags to inflate than if they were to be stupid at 70 but wouldn't be wonderful if we stopped people doing stupid things in the first place rather than make obscene amounts of money from people trying to get somewhere

I do not believe fixed cameras are deployed in Durham or North Yorkshire, but Durham might make limited use of mobile cameras, though I'm not sure.
Maybe you don't know the difference between a speed camera, and a speed camera sign. I certainly do not think you have much idea about promoting genuine road safety as opposed to supporting money making stunts. Sorry, but that's how I see it.

Nonsense.
The Police have all sorts of targets, and more work to do than they have got time for.
A sensible Police Force will prioritise their tasks.
I think, with car related deaths at or near historic lows of about 3,500 per year, the Police have *MUCH* better things to do than spend time messing about with speed cameras.

Blair wants his tax from the motorists. Simple as that.
Two million motorists a year caught speeding, by 60 quid a go, is 120 million quid for not much effort.
Nice work if you can get it, surely ?

calls for enforcement of an arbitrary number? i dont think so. the m6 toll must be one of the safest roads in the world. speed enforcement here is perverse.the rest of your post is drivel. im guessing you profit in someway from this 'speed kills' cr@p?
